In 1983, I earned a Bachelors in Product Design from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Upon Graduating, I went to work with JSDG consulting in Atlanta. In '87 I entered the MBA program at Georgia State University. I soon realized it wasn't the right place for me. While trying to understand why business school felt so wrong, I visited the Architecture department at Georgia Tech. Next thing I knew I was visiting Architecture schools all over the country. When I walked into the wood shop in the University of Washington's school of Architecture I knew I was in the right place. I completed my Masters in Architecture in 1992.
Over the years I've had the very good fortune to work with David Hewitt, Clint Pehrson, NBBJ, Callison, the Retail Group and SKB Architect's. I worked on single family homes, retail shops, banks, corporate offices, auto dealerships, restaurants and even a high rise office tower.
In August of 2005 Washington State passed RCW 64.55. Architects with significant technical experience were suddenly in high demand. I became the Director of Architecture for J2 Envelope Consultants. I was leading investigations, writing assessments, designing repair protocols, providing litigation support and managing construction projects for Single family homes, Apartment Buildings, Condominium Associations and Commercial Office Towers all over western Washington and Oregon.
In 2010, I realized I was on the wrong path. I was doing important work but my spirit was declining rapidly, something had to change. I left J2 and opened DSDAA (David Sova Design, Art, Architecture).
