Well this is certainly a vibrant color for a coneflower! The brand new 'Atomic Orange' has large, double flowers that bloom in abundance on compact, upright plants. It's long-lasting flowers have a slow color shift, giving this plant added value throughout the summer.
Sometimes evergreens can be expensive so with some budgets, its best to start small. Our second crop of Green Giant Cedars in easy-to-plant 5 gallon pots are now available and priced just right at $29.99 each. There are over 100 available but they will surely go quick!
Since it is hard to tell how big those plants actually are, I thought I would grab one as a size reference. It may look more on the smaller side but these grow FAST -- up to 3' per year once established!
Green Giant Cedars should be planted in full sun to part shade on 5 foot centers to create a nice hedge. They are deer resistant, winter hardy and retain their lustrous rich green color all year 'round. They grow to about 25-30' tall and 5-6' wide at maturity.
It’s spooky season and the spiders are coming out to play. Can you spot their intricate webs? 🕷🕸

As a gardener we might think we get a little break in the fall? Well, not exactly! There is still plenty to do in the lawn and garden in fall including clean up, preparing and planting for next year, controlling weeds, pruning, fertilizing, grub control and preventing issues from arising the next spring.
I’m back after a one-week break to talk about our new shipment of large shade tree-type maples. Autumn Blaze, Red Pointe and Red Sunset are the available varieties. Plus, I will talk about the pretty fall color happening all around the nursery and show you all of the places where 10,000+ tulip bulbs have been planted! To finish off I will take a look at the new shipment of poinsettias including 2 new varieties for 2020!
They're here!!! Our large Maples came in on schedule and now are available for pick up or delivery. Our selection includes 2" caliper Autumn Blaze, Red Pointe and Red Sunset maples. And boy are they pretty! They are some of the best shaped maples we have ever had!
So what is the difference between these 3 different varieties?
Autumn Blaze - Our best selling shade-tree-type maple with green foliage changing to long-lasting, blazing orange-red in fall. The habit is upright and uniform with exceptional branching. Grows to 50' tall by 40' wide. (shown below, left)
Red Pointe - Gaining much popularity with homeowners and landscapers because of it's pyramidal habit that is narrower than other maples. The glossy green leaves are followed by brilliant red fall color. Grows to about 40-45' tall by 20-30' wide. (shown below, middle)
Red Sunset - This classic, large-growing maple is one of the best for early fall color with it's brilliant orange-scarlet hue. It's shape is pyramidal when young aging to rounded. Grows to 40-50' tall by 30-35' wide. (shown below, right)
All of these maples are quick growers putting on up to 12-24" of growth per year.
It may only be October but the poinsettias are here so they can color up before the holiday season begins!
And what is that I see below? A sachet including a natural, very effective predatory mite to help us control whitefly in an environment in which they would normally thrive. Also pictured are two new (but VERY limited) varieties called 'Christmas Mouse Red' (rounded leaf) and 'Tapestry Red' (variegated form).

When a business produces any kind of product, plants included, many of these processes are not necessarily environmentally friendly. Well, in 1999, we decided to change that. We began an ambitious program to tackle all three of these areas; energy, pollution and chemical use. With these added components, the production of our plants are on their way to be truly sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Are you going to be the first one in your neighborhood to do this?
From shorts weather to hoodie weather... this week has seen it all! But, luckily, the warm weather allowed us to start and finish some projects including bringing up those beautiful poinsettias from the back, paving of more of our driveway, cutting branches at Galehouse Tree Farms in Doylestown for our cemetery blankets and preparing the space for the delivery of live greens such as wreaths, swags, roping and other greens. I will finish the video with a few gardening tips for this week as well!
GO Melanie GO!
We took this time lapse video today while Melanie finished decorating one of our hand-made cascading grave blankets. The weatherproof bows are also made here by our talented staff!

The greenhouse has been spruced up to prepare for the upcoming holiday season! Our pesticide-free poinsettias are now available in a wide array of colors and sizes.
I'm finally back after a 5-6 week hiatus! I will get you updated on what we've been up to and some current projects plus provide some information about our upcoming winter seminar on Feb. 13th. Plus I will discuss a brand new basil variety for 2021 and give you a sneak peek of some new pottery for houseplants!
We have a question for you! If you had to grow just one edible crop this year in your own garden, which one would it be? 🍓🫐🍅🫑🥕🌽🥦🍑🥒

I wanted to share a success story shared with us from Nancy...
Attached is a picture of my poinsettia that started out 4 years ago as a small red poinsettia in a planter. I inquired how to winter it over to bloom again. You had mentioned to cut it back to just 6" tall. I then planted the pot in the ground over the summer and brought it into the house the end of September. This is the results for this year! It now turns from red to pink each year. When I cut it back last year, I never dreamed it would turn into this beautiful plant!
❤️Thank you so much for the story Nancy! We love to hear of your success!

Even though it is a lot of hard work, we are all a bit jealous of Max potting back in the 70 degree greenhouse on this cold and snowy day! Today he is working on antique salmon zonal geraniums and trailing vinca combo baskets. They will be full and lush in no time!
