Dean Otaka, MD, is a dedicated family medicine practitioner who provides individualized care to adults of all ages in the Aiea area of Honolulu. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Dr. Otaka completed an internship and residency in family practice at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. While there, he was honored with the Rico Award. He later served as chief resident in family practice.
Dr. Otaka is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and previously served on four medical committees with Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu. He is a former member of various professional societies and past president of the Hawaii chapter of the American Medical Student Association. He maintains membership in Doctors Oughta Care, an organization committed to smoking cessation.
Active in sports, Dr. Otaka coached local basketball for several years. He is a USA Swimming certified swim coach and officiates USA Swimming competitions in the Hawaii region.
