A lot of people are always curious as to what kind of risks are involved in LASIK surgery. And you should be! You are only given one set of eyes and you should take care of them. With any sort of procedure, there are risks involved. Although most related to LASIK are mild and typically pretty rare, they very well can happen and you should weigh risk versus reward before undergoing treatment. The most common risks associated with LASIK are: dry eye, glare or halos around light sources, infection, and undercorrection/overcorrection of the prescription. Depending on the patient’s age and prescription before surgery, some patients may even develop a greater need for reading glasses as well! This being the case, LASIK is still a very common and safe procedure. And for the right patient, can greatly improve your quality of life! Here at Dell Laser we will walk through the entire process with you from start until finish. We will make sure you are well-informed, understand your wants/needs based on your lifestyle, and ensure we have thorough data regarding your eyes. Often, patients are concerned with when they can experience the benefits of LASIK surgery. That is completely understandable. Our goal is to get you back to your daily life as quick as possible! The recovery process for LASIK is typically extremely quick. Patients often notice significant improvements the day after surgery, with even more advancements coming a couple of days after surgery. This is due to the nature of the surgery. A flap is created in the cornea and lifted, where corneal tissue is then reshaped. The flap is then precisely placed where it was prior to creating it. The body's immune system barely even knows anything happened! This makes for a quick recovery and very little discomfort for the patient. The technology we use at Dell Laser Consultants is the latest and greatest in the world of laser vision correction procedures. We use a technique known as Wavefront Aberrometry which measures your eyes irregularities that cannot be fixed with glasses, contacts, or normal laser vision correction procedures. This is because these other methods only attempts to decrease what is know as lower-order aberrations (think nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism). Our technology as the ability to significantly reduce these, as well as higher order aberrations that may affect your vision! Rest assured we will take our time with every patient, measuring your eyes as precise as we can. This allows us to give you the most quality vision you are capable of having! . . . . . . #lasereyesurgery #lasersurgery #lasikeyesurgery #lasiksurgery #lasik #optometry #ophthalmology #2020vision #2020 #vision #eyes #eyesurgeon #DLCATX
Have you ever had questions whether or not you were a good candidate for LASIK surgery? Well hopefully this helps you! There’s only so much we can put on a social media post so feel free to come in to get more information! 1. One of the factors to consider is how old you are. Most people don’t stop growing until their 20’s, which can mean their eyes aren’t done changing. Typically you are a candidate for LASIK if you are older than 18 but that’s not a guarantee! The real indication is if your prescription is stable. 2. There are some health conditions that may prevent you from getting LASIK surgery as well. This includes diabetes, autoimmune disorders, certain ocular diseases, specific medications you are taking, and if you are pregnant. 3. We perform LASIK by reshaping the front of your eye. That being the case, we can only reshape it so much! We like to play it safe with patients and put our limits to 6.00 diopters of farsightedness, 6.00 diopters of astigmatism, and 12.00 diopters of nearsightedness. You’ll thank us later for this. 4. There are specific diseases or events that can occur throughout your life that can alter the shape of the front of your eye or the thickness of the front of your eye. These can include injuries or previous surgeries to the eyes (or just the way you were born!). 5. This is by far the hardest factor to measure. We are honest with our patients and do our best to improve your vision and life as much as we physically can. That, we can guarantee. But with every surgery there are possible risks and complications. We want to ensure our patients that we will be there with you through this journey so you don’t feel alone, scared, or confused. . . . . . . #lasiksurgery #lasik #lasikeyesurgery #lasiklover #eye #eyes #eyecarebecausewecare #eyecareprofessionals #eyecare #austintexas #austin #austintx #lasereyesurgery
