Visitor Guidelines at Denver Health During COVID 19 Pandemic
Patient safety is Denver Health's top priority as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. We have taken several steps at all of our buildings to protect you. One such measure is limiting the number of patients entering our facilities. Patients can call to confirm their provider is ready to see them, or be called by the clinic to confirm. This helps to avoid crowding in the waiting areas and reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Learn more about our #COVID19 safety initiatives at https://den.health/volume. #Coronavirus #DoingMyPartCO #COVID19Colorado #DHPatientSafety
According to the CDC, on average, Hispanics/Latinos are more likely to have Type 2 Diabetes than non-Hispanic whites (17% vs. 8%). "Your selflessness, expertise, quick and sound decisions, and the phenomenal care you provided reminded me that there are angels and heroes among us," said Megan, who nearly died after an attack in a parking lot last year. We were honored to arrange a reunion so she could personally thank the Denver Health Paramedics and Denver Health Emergency Department nurses and doctors who helped save her life. Denver Health Patient Reunites With Her Angels and Heroes
Nurses at the Denver General were expected to work twelve-hour shifts with an hour off for dinner. In exchange, they received free room and board and a monthly stipend ranging from eight dollars to twelve dollars. The nurses were expected to be in their rooms by ten o’clock each night and were prohibited from seeing visitors when they were on duty. Each nurse also had one afternoon off during the week and half day on Sunday to attend church services Their uniforms consisted of blue and white seersucker dresses, white aprons, linen collars, cuffs and caps. In the 1890s, the nurses wore a cap that was made from a man’s handkerchief. In 1912, a new cap was designed that resembled a small cone. That led nurses at other hospitals to refer to the DG nurses as the “Dutch Cleanser Girls.” The nurses hated the caps so much that a new one was designed the following year. #DH160 #DHHistory #TBT

Today, Denver Health was honored to have Denver muralist, Austin Zucchini-Fowler, add the finishing touches to his latest artwork installation, "Health Care Angels," located inside Pavilion A of the hospital's main campus. Many of Austin's murals can be found in Denver's downtown neighborhoods and have come to be known by an iconic style and message. The commanding 8 x 12 foot mural, created using spray paint and acrylic, shows an emblematic scene featuring a Denver Health doctor, nurse and housekeeper, each depicted with the wings of an angel, against the backdrop of the city skyline. The piece is being contributed as a part of his "Walls of Gratitude" series inspired by the health care heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch this video of the artist creating the mural and learn more about what message he hopes to convey at https://den.health/HealthCareAngels.
