Each year from October 6 - 12, the American Academy of PAs celebrates National PA Week, which recognizes the PA profession and their contributions to our nation's health.
Physician Assistants (PAs) are medical professionals with the ability to diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, and prescribe medications. They may work in a physician's office, hospital, or medical clinic in collaboration with a licensed physician. UP Health System is proud to be home of several PAs, and our team of professionals offers the knowledge and expertise to assist our patients throughout the year.
Thank you to our PAs who continue to be #HealthcareHeroes each and every day! #PAsAreEssential #NationalPAWeek
UP Health System is taking every precaution to keep our patients and staff safe to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities. For this reason, anyone who enters our facility must wear a face mask at all times.
Universal masking, in addition to practicing social distancing and proper hand hygiene, can help prevent the spread of infectious diseases like COVID-19, especially in individuals who may not know they are ill. And until there is a vaccine, these measures are our best line of defense in protecting not only you but also our healthcare workers and community members.

For years, Lauri Ruonavaara organized a holiday donation program aimed to anonymously help local middle and high school-aged children in need, until she passed in early 2020. As this December drew nearer, a local teen and family friend of Lauri decided to pick up where she left off – and the staff of UP Health System – Marquette joined in to help.
“It’s challenging to work in a hospital during the pandemic. The staff here is working so hard, and they still donated their personal time and resources to help kids that they don’t even know. It’s just amazing,” said Dr. Henry.

Since the #COVID19 vaccine administration process began, UP Health System - Marquette and UP Health System - Bell have been carefully following prioritization guidance from the CDC, the federal government, our state, and our local health department. When educators in our area became eligible to receive the vaccine, our hospitals were proud to administer vaccinations to this priority group and help ensure that educators can safely continue their important work in the classroom.
After several weeks of large-scale vaccination clinics, this partnership with the Marquette County Health Department and area schools has resulted in 88% of Marquette County's teachers successfully vaccinated or scheduled for vaccination – the highest rate in the state. #GetVaccinated #StaySafe #MakingCommunitiesHealthier
