It’s Fraxel Friday! Our beautiful patient came in for sun damage on the face and was treated with the 1550/1927nm Fraxel DUAL laser. The Fraxel Laser is the gold standard for skin rejuvenation, and Dr.Friedman has personally been performing this treatment since 2004.

A small congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) is a skin condition characterized by an abnormally dark, noncancerous skin patch (nevus) that is composed of a large concentration of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. It may be present at birth (congenital) or is noticeable soon after birth.

Pigment specific lasers, in expert dermatology hands, may be utilized to lighten the appearance of small CMN in lieu of surgical removal for patients bothered by the cosmetic appearance. Capillary Vasulary Malformations (CVM) are caused by the abnormal development of blood vessels. They are always present at birth and they are red or purple areas that can occur anywhere, but often on the face. These malformations, unfortunately, do not fade or go away, and, in fact, they usually grow deeper and thicker with time making treatment more difficult.

The results on our patient with a hypertrophic CVM above were achieved utilizing a series of treatment sessions with the 595-nm pulsed dye laser in combination with the 755-nm long-pulsed alexandrite laser. Periodic maintenance treatments are required.

Reticular veins, also known as blood veins or feeder veins, occur with the weakening of the elastic fibers in the walls of the blood vessel.
