How do you use glassware and jars from DI in your home? Here are a few of our ideas: 1) Buy a glass dish at Deseret Industries to use for delivering dessert to a friend, and let them keep the bowl! 2) Search for a collection of vases and jars with interesting shapes and colors. Add some ribbon and flowers and display them all together. 3) Use them to hold crafting supplies. It’s a fun a way to display and store items at the same time.

Brystina started working at Deseret Industries not expecting to enjoy work. But after making a friend and having some growth opportunities, she has a different perspective. “I started here as one person—it’s only been a few months, and I already feel like my world has completely changed,” says Brystina. “This is my first job. I was so worried I would hate working because everyone always complains about work. But being here really showed me that anything—even the parts of life that people don’t like—can have interesting and enjoyable factors to it.” Since coming to DI, Brystina has received her GED and is working on getting her driver’s license. She’s exploring different careers, but she’s interested in writing and in counseling work with children. “I found out from DI that there are so many things that I am capable of. And they helped showed me how brilliant I can be.”
A great way to set a table is to use a color as a theme. Then shop with that theme in mind—look for plates, flatware, linens, and centerpiece items that match the color you picked!
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when shopping at DI! Decorating with items that don’t always seem to go together is a great way to create visual interest. One shopper used an embroidered pillowcase as a placemat, a vintage book as a centerpiece, and mismatched plates for a unique tablescape that we love!

Relationships are important to Omima. She moved to the United States six years ago with her husband and three daughters, but she communicates often with family and friends who live in her home country of Sudan and from her time living in Kenya. When she started at Deseret Industries, Omima worked processing donations. Now she works as a cashier, which is a good fit for her because she cares deeply about others. “I like to talk with people and discuss things with them,” she says. Omima is enjoying learning all kinds of things at DI: “I've learned how to answer the phone, organize clothing, and help customers with credit cards and cash [as well as about] customer service.” Moving forward, Omima would like to find a full-time job with benefits where she can use her cashiering and customer service skills. Comment, like, or share to show support for Omima.
