We are excited to be working with Brett Nixon on another great project in downtown Oxford.
Charter Township of Oxford
February 1 at 4:31 PM ·
Oxford Township loves it when folks breathe new life into our historic buildings. We love it when folks choose to invest their time, resources and dollars in the community.
That’s why we are so excited to see what’s happening with the former A&A Flowers and Gifts building (6 N. Washington St.) in downtown Oxford’s northeast quadrant. Brett Nixon, owner of Nixon Holdings, LLC., is painstakingly renovating the two-story gem and transforming it into a mixed-use property.
The ground floor, which is close to 2,000 square feet, will continue to serve as commercial space. The second floor is being converted into two “luxury” apartments, according to Mr. Nixon, who lives in neighboring Orion Township. Each unit is approximately 900 square feet. He’s planning to add a balcony to the apartment on the east side of the building.
Mr. Nixon is hoping potential commercial and residential tenants will fall in love with the exposed brick walls and high ceilings. The main floor has a 12-foot ceiling, while the second floor's ceiling height ranges from about 10 to 14 feet.
Mr. Nixon is planning to remove the old A&A Flowers and Gifts façade and replace it with a storefront that’s a bit more in keeping with the character of the building.
Erected circa 1892, the building originally housed Whitcomb and Son, a business that sold furniture and offered undertaking services. It was owned by Gilbert J. Whitcomb and his son Charles. The business occupied two buildings – 6 N. Washington St. housed the furniture store, while the funeral parlor was located next door at 8 N. Washington St.
Good luck with your project, Mr. Nixon. Oxford Township wishes you nothing but the best.

"Architects who specialize in self-storage design generally provide a better result than off-the-shelf packages from manufacturers of pre-fabricated structures; and they are definitely more reliable than architects who have never designed a self-storage facility."
