An Elevator or Lift in the home allows for ease of getting around for individuals with disabilities or are growing older. However, without proper precautions, can pose dangers for homes with children.
Here are a few tips for Safety and Children in homes with elevators or lifts:
1. Make sure they don't play in or near your residential elevator or lift
2. Walk your child through the various functions even if they have ridden in one previously.
3. Doors of the home elevator or the lift should be treated with care, and children should not rush through them as they open.
4. Pushing several buttons at once increases the chance of your home elevator breaking down.
5. Advise children that when playing Hide and Seek, the elevator or lift is not a hiding place or play area.
6. Add a lock to the exterior door/gate to make sure younger children cannot open it without an adult.
Keeping your little ones safe is always concern number one. Ride with children in your home elevator until they are old enough and responsible enough to be in the elevator alone. Riding with them decreases the chance for accidents or injury.
Overall, residential home elevators and lifts are safe with proper training and education.
