The flu virus remains one of the Top 10 leading causes of death each year in the U.S., and getting a flu vaccine this year has never been more important. By vaccinating against the flu, you are helping reduce its spread in southern Nevada during the COVID-19 pandemic and helping to ensure that our health care systems can manage through this time.
Today, and every day, we remember those who lost their lives and those who responded to save the lives of others.
Every pedestrian fatal crash is preventable. Motorists, know the law, yield to pedestrians, and share the road. Pedestrians, be visible, use crosswalks, and be predictable.
Congratulations to Gena Watkins, one of our Wellness Center Coordinators, for winning the "Acts of humankindness" award for September. As part of an ADSD grant we received to run the Medicare Assistance Program for Southern Nevada, Gena worked incredibly hard on the program's implementation. She was the first to complete required training, and she helped coordinate hiring the volunteers, and Gena began assisting beneficiaries the day the program launched. Clients have had great things to say about the help Gena's provided. Congratulations, Gena!

Last week was Sterile Processing Week, and we celebrated the skilled technicians in our Sterile Processing Department. They like to say they solve problems we don’t know we have in ways we wouldn’t understand. What we do know is they make our hospital a safer place for our patients, and we’re very glad they’re on our team.
Together, we can beat the flu. Here are some simple tips to protect yourself and your family this flu season:
• Get the flu vaccine
• Avoid close contact with those who are sick and stay home if you are
• Wear a mask when in public
• Use your elbow to cover coughs and sneezes
• Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds and carry hand sanitizer with you to use frequently
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth
• Disinfect surfaces
• Ensure you are maintaining a physical distance of 6 ft. in public spaces
Stay healthy, Nevada!
Before crossing an intersection, look left, right, and left again for oncoming or turning traffic. Establish eye contact with drivers who slow down or stop to ensure the driver is yielding the right-of-way to you. #DriveSafeNV #ZeroFatalites #PedestrianSafety
Happy Emergency Nurses Week to our St. Rose Dominican ER Nurses!

November is American Diabetes Month!
Often, southern Nevadans lack the resources they need to stay healthy and people with diabetes are disproportionately impacted. Every Nevadan deserves equal access to care-no matter their race, income, zip code, age, education or gender. Because, this month and always, Equity > Prejudice.

During this annual Patient Transport Week, St. Rose Dominican honors the people who make the wheels go around in our hospital. These are the transporters who quietly go about their task of getting our patients to the right place at the right time. While their primary role is to move people, they often become sources of reassurance in a sometimes frightening environment. Thank you to our amazing patient transport staff - the hardworking feet of our hospitals - for all you do. Happy National Patient Transport Week!
