The McKinney Fire Department (MFD), working with community partners, has established warming stations for community members who need a warm place to stay. The warming stations are not providing sleeping accommodations and hours of operation vary by location. Warming stations locations include:
• Roy and Helen Hall Library at 101 E. Hunt St. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• McKinney Boyd High School at 600 Lake Forest Dr. is open 24 hours
Additionally, MFD is working with area senior living facilities to set up accommodations for those without power and water.

McKinney is not shutting the water off, we would never shut the water off. The following is EXACTLY what I understand the genesis of this narrative to be:
There was a discussion that ERCOT could take the North Texas Municipal Water District off the grid to avoid a massive blackout. This somehow grew into that they are taking NTMWD off grid. This then put into motion all the panic among the member city residents, dramatically increasing the water consumption, arguably as a “preparation for loss of water” response. This of course is now, actually creating an issue that did not exist. All entities involved, from cities, to county to the North Texas Municipal Water District have expressed successfully to ERCOR that removing the plant from the grid would cause irreparable mid-term damage to the facility itself, in addition to a tremendous public health crisis. The single most important thing everyone can do at this moment is to stop perpetuating these narratives that are causing the run on water. The district has assured us that they are able to continue providing clean water, but are making the request of all of us to be responsible and conserve water. High use is impeding all systems, especially during the weather issue, and adds to the difficulty of the job and service the NTMWD is doing.
All that said, it has been stated directly from ERCOR that they are not, I repeat, NOT removing the NtMWD from the grid.
