Our hearts go out to the members of our hospital teams and communities affected by the current wildfires. We want to assure our community that Dominican Hospital is unaffected by the fires, and is open and providing care.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide any updates to our operations here, as needed. We stand ready to support our community, and wish you all health and safety.
Humankindness doesn’t have a how-to guide. Its practice isn’t laid out step by step. Each of us are free to express, define, and relate to humankindness in our own way. #Hellohumankindness
As a nonprofit health ministry, every day, we see the realities of health inequity. We see the lives that could have been saved with earlier intervention, we see the impact that limited access to care not only has on people, but also entire communities, and we have seen what COVID-19 has done to make this disparity even more deadly. CommonSpirit Health is taking a stand to promote social justice and advocate for health equity in our community in a virtual town hall called Humankindness Across America. CommonSpirit Health CEO Lloyd Dean leads a conversation about this incredibly important work and charts our future forward as a ministry dedicated to all we serve. We hope you’ll join in the conversation with us.

Though we may not be able to control the election outcome or the coronavirus pandemic, we can temper our emotional reaction to both by staying emotionally connected.
While many are physically separated from friends and loved ones, we are fortunate to have great tools to use -- starting with the phone, and including Skype, Zoom, Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to include those who may be especially isolated right now. #Hellohumankindness
Five months ago, our community suffered a tragic loss when Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller was shot and killed in the line of duty. He left behind a young wife, son, and newborn daughter. This week, Dominican Hospital leadership and employees welcomed the friends and family of Sgt. Gutzwiller for a touching ceremony to dedicate a memorial bench in his memory. The bench is located in the ambulance bay outside of the Emergency Department, and will provide an opportunity for respite and reflection for years to come.

Five months ago today, we lost our hero, Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller.
These months have shown us devastation, hurt and loss but they have also shown us incredible strength and grit.
Our entire office has felt the love and support from the community and still feel it — and for that we are forever grateful.
This week, Dominican Hospital and Dignity Health held a small ceremony to dedicate a bench to Damon. This bench now sits alongside those for Detective Elizabeth Butler and Sgt. Butch Baker, the fallen Santa Cruz Police Officers.
Thank you to their staff for this gracious gesture. Our partnership with Dominican Hospital is something we treasure.
We miss you Sgt. Gutzwiller and continue to spend our days striving to make you proud.
The first known case in the Bay Area of a dual coronavirus-influenza infection was confirmed this week in Solano County. If you haven't done so already, GET YOUR FLU SHOT, and while you're at it, double down on social distancing and mask wearing. Getting a flu vaccine has never been more important. Vaccination not only reduces the risk of catching the flu, it also reduces the chance that you'll be hospitalized. #covid #flu #coronavirus
