This customer wanted more light and airflow. I removed the old windows and installed a window with sliders on each side. I also installed a whole house fan to optimize the air flow capabilities. Turned out just as expected. If you need a new window or windows... You Know A Guy!

Even You Know A Guy, Knows a Guy😉. This job was completed by one of our Partners in trades, Hazelwood Drywall & Painting. Jeffrey Hazelwood is always professional and never fails to impress me with his skills. The plaster ceiling was falling down, and cracked all over. Two Part Post-
We’d like to finish off the year by welcoming our brother, David Deweese, to the team!!! David brings over 25 years of experience in many areas of our trade!!! We’re excited to have him on our crew and add him to the list of family that currently works together: Richard L. Deweese(Father) Amy Deweese Peterson(Sister), John Deweese(Brother), Stephen Deweese(Brother), Myself Daniel Aaron Deweese(Brother), Bay Peterson(Nephew-Amy’s Son) and Sydney Deweese(niece).

I watched him lean over to his friend and he whispered, ‘That’s not Mr. Tierney.’ It was one of the most awesome pranks we’ve ever pulled!"

"Jake is a school teacher and one year on April Fools Day, I dressed as Jake and stood in for him during some his classes. They were all taking tests and we had everybody going for a long time. In one of the classes, this kid comes up to the desk to turn in his test and we made eye contact. His eyes got all big and he hurried back to his desk. I watched him lean over to his friend and he whispered, ‘That’s not Mr. Tierney.’ It was one of the most awesome pranks we’ve ever pulled!"

February Employee of the Month is Bay Peterson 🙌🥳🤩🙌 Bay has worked in our shop for the past 1.5 years. Prior to graduating from high school he spent 2 summers working in the “field” painting outside. He also takes care of our deliveries 🚚 & he does a great job. Homeowners are constantly commenting on how sweet he is. Bay has been working extra hard lately - he is conscientious about the incoming jobs and trying to meet our deadlines. And since he is related to me (Amy Deweese Peterson) we hold him to a higher standard 😳 We are proud of you Bay, now keep up the good work!

Let’s get to know Steve!
Steve started working in 1968 when he was a junior in high school for Dunn Paint Company. He took a break from the paint life from 1972-1974 while he was stationed in Germany serving in the Military. After returning home, Steve continued working with Dunn Paint Company. He was able to watch and work through the transition from Dunn Paint to Don Smith Paint around 1990. Steve has been working in the paint industry for over 50 years! His knowledge and experience are unmatched. He became the Paint Wizard this year to share his knowledge base with the community! Steve loves making people smile!

We were very fortunate to be apart of the St. John’s Breadline community today. The Breadline feeds 200-300 people daily. They do not receive any federal or state funding, it’s all donation based. Only 20% of those they feed are homeless, the rest are seniors or disabled based on a fixed income. The director told us, we don’t ask questions if you need food we give it out with love. We are very happy we could give them a freshly painted dining room. They accept all food donations! Amazing group!!Thank you to Dan Deweese Painting and Wood Finishing for helping us give back today.

This month is all about Tim and today is Timsday!
Most Don Smith customers will recognize this face, but something you might not know about Tim is that he comes from a long line of painters! With his nephew now in the painting business, there are 5 generations of painters in the Jennings family dating back to the mid 1930’s. After serving in World War II, his grandfather and great uncle began working as union painters, unknowingly starting a family tradition. While Tim doesn’t often work as a painter these days, he is still heavily involved in the paint industry.
“The first time I picked up a paintbrush, I was 16 years old,” spending summers at the fairgrounds helping his dad. Tim started at MAB paints in March of 1987 then worked for Friedman’s until starting at ICI in 1996, working there for 3 years before returning to Friedman’s in 1999. Tim started working for Don Smith Paint Co. in 2001 and has now been here for 20 years! We are excited to see where the next 20 years take us!

Stephen Deweese officially celebrated 6 years with us this January (running a tad bit behind on our evaluations!) Steve is our brother and has been painting since he was a teenager. He and Dan painted together long before Dan started this business 😉 If you have seen one of our cabinet posts, Steve has painted the cabinets on-site (shop guys spray doors/drawers in the shop) We are extremely blessed to have Steve working for us!! It’s Timsday!
Tim is the MVP here at Don Smith. He knows the ins and outs better than anyone. For 20 years, Tim has been one of the first people to get to the store in the morning and one of the last ones to leave at the end of the day. Over the years, there have been multiple pranks pulled in the store and one in particular stands out in Tim’s mind. “One summer, the previous owner and I convinced a painting contractor that Steve and our delivery driver, at the time, were karaoke partners that performed across central Illinois on the weekends. We continued to egg it on the entire summer without Steve’s knowledge. When he and the contractor both realized what happened, their reactions were priceless."
Tim and Steve get asked all the time if they are brothers. Tim’s response, "The age gap is too big! No, we are not brothers. We’ve been desk partners for 20 years, and we’ve argued every day for 20 years." While none of our employees are siblings, we do all act like one big family.

It’s Timsday!
Tim loves making people smile and one way he does so is by helping make people’s paint dreams come true! Tim has been part of multiple jobs and projects over the years. Sometimes helping pick the right paint for the project, other times being one of the painters on the job! Some of Tim’s favorite jobs that he has been part of include the Illinois State Fair Grandstand repaint, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library. The biggest change in products he has seen since he started include the evolution of waterborne products, and the new, fun tools that make the job easier. With all of his experience, Tim knows every tool that you could need for any project! "The best tool that a painter can have is product knowledge. Ask questions and learn what the product can and cannot do." Picking the right type of paint for the job is extremely important! Tim knows this better than anyone, as his favorite products are all paints! Mainly Benjamin Moore, of course. Tim can answer any paint question thrown his way. The best piece of advice he’s ever gotten, "anything you do is only as good as the effort you put in." Tim puts his heart into everything he does and it shows! We ❤️ Tim!
