A big win for our clients today from the Nebraska Supreme Court:
Dornan Law Team attorney Mallory Hughes represented a shop owner and her employee who were charged THREE times by the Washington County Attorney's Office for selling CBD Oil. All three times, Mallory got the case dismissed at the lower level but they kept re-filing and after their third loss, the Washington County Attorney's Office appealed directly to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
In summary, today's opinion from the Nebraska Supreme Court states that (as Mallory argued each time the case was dismissed and during oral argument in front of the NE Supreme Court) the clients were never selling anything that has ever been enumerated as illegal under the Nebraska Controlled Substances Act. The CBD oil did not have illegal properties.
Congratulations to Mallory and her clients on another win!
We are thrilled to welcome attorney Taylor Renfro to the DLT Immigration team!
Taylor is experienced in immigration law - especially asylum, removal defense, family petitions, juvenile visas, adjustment of status, and U visas. She also has practiced criminal, guardianship, divorce, and custody law.
She is an excellent attorney eager to help her clients. We're so lucky to have her on our team!
It's been a while since we've had jury trials due to the global pandemic, but they're happening again and we're winning again!
Big congratulations to DLT lawyer Mallory Hughes for her win in Lincoln this week, securing a not guilty verdict for her client from a jury - in a trial complete with masks, face shields, and social distancing.
Dornan Law Team partner Sean Conway co-authored an article in the current issue of Nebraska Lawyer about child abuse reporting in the state of Nebraska.
In it, Conway and the other authors look at "the disproportionate and damaging impact of state investigation and community policing of families of color" and examine what changes could be made to bring more balance to the current state statutes.
The entire article is linked in the comments.
We love seeing all the good our attorneys do outside of the office. Here's to Kristin Feanow and her work with UNO's Office of Latino/Latin American Studies!

Yesterday the US Supreme Court determined that the Trump Administration’s decision to terminate DACA was arbitrary and capricious. This is a huge victory for DACA recipients and a result of their hard work, determination and activism.
Our team of immigration attorneys celebrates this win and vows to keep fighting for our clients and comprehensive immigration reform, including relief for DREAMers.
