Wild roses are one of my very favorite plants to forage. I love making lotions, tinctures and recipes with them. We just got back from beach and foraged a bunch of petals that were a good gust of wind away from hitting the ground. Clementine wanted to make rosewater. Rosewater is a great tonic for the skin as well as a delicious beverage. Our favorite recipe to make with rosewater is rosewater lemonade To make the rosewater: add the petals to a pot and cover with water. Just enough water to cover the petals and no more Simmer on low for 20-30 min Strain the roses and you are left with rosewater. To make rosewater lemonade, just add lemons and honey! Roses calm the shen (spirt) and center and open the heart chakra. Rosewater can also be put into a spray bottle and misted onto the skin, rosewater has anti inflammatory properties, helps with skin ph and is soothing
The School of Evolutionary Herbalism June 26 at 5:00 PM · Perhaps you've noticed that we've been sharing a lot about the heart this week. I suppose this is because there's not only a lot of intensity right now but also because many incredible heart remedies are blooming right now! It always fascinates me that these plants show up exactly when we need them the most - right there ready and willing to support us. How intelligent is nature? The plants we need are always right there waiting for us to be present enough to open our eyes and find them. We've been out gathering many Roses this week and it’s amazing how much its been lifting my spirit. With Rose, I find that it digs deep into the emotional body, and travels into those thorny places within the memories of the heart where wounds and scars formed from the traumas of the past. Rose brings healing, forgiveness, resolution and an opening to the heart, giving life to the new bud of hope growing within 🌸 It teaches us that we can learn to walk through our lives with an open heart, and yet be protected as shown through Rose’s soft petals and sharp thorns. If you can, I encourage you to take a moment to sit with any kind of Rose and breath in that unmistakeable scent, letting it rest and ease your soul. A simple tea infusion of Rose petals and Tulsi is a wonderful way to calm the body and soothe the senses 🌸 Click here to watch our latest blog video on Rose and Herbs for the Emotional Heart: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/2020/06/24/herbs-for-the-emotional-heart/
Do you forage for plants for food or to make your own medicine? We love to use what nature provides us, there’s nothing like walking into a forest or field to gather your own medicine Today we’re making birch leaf lotion. The birch tree has several healing properties, one of them being it is very useful in the treatment of eczema. We infused birch leaves with olive oil and let them sit for a few weeks to infuse. We then added some Shea nut butter and whipped the 2 together, it really was quite easy! You can also make a tea with the leaves, put it on a washcloth and soak your eczema patches with that. If you are in Maine now, wild sea roses are also in bloom! This is one of my very favorite plants to work with! You can infuse them in a brandy or alcohol for 4-5 days to make you own tincture. You can also make lotion with them. Wild sea roses open the heart chakra and can help with grief. It’s also very good for the skin
