I recently saw a new article published, and I think its an important reminder. As foot doctors we learn, and know that children with flat feet are more likely to have more problems with their activity or pain than without flat feet. This study adds to that evidence. The debate in the podiatry world has been whether to treat children with flat feet that do not have problems. The risk is if they are not treated the flat feet can lead to problems as an adult, as may be suggested by this article which confirms that the flat-foot is actually WORSENED after physical activity! Another important point is that flat-footed children are more likely to be fatigued and/or with pain after activity! This may prevent them from any further activity. We know the less active children are, the less active they will be as an adult. If your child is over the age of 5 and you think they have flat-feet it can only help to get it checked out by a Podiatrist ... like me 😉 - Andrew Alward DPM MERIDIAN.ALLENPRESS.COM FATIGUE IN CHILDREN WITH PRONATED FEET AFTER AEROBIC EXERCISES | Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association | Allen Press
Never ignore even mildly chronic pain. A lot of great advice here, from proper shoes, and orthotics, but one of the most important has to be the pre/post run stretching. There's a lot of debate whether you should stretch before or after your activity. Personally I say before if you had to choose. This increases blood flow, and loosens up tight muscles to allow for normal bio-mechanics. Even if you do not run it is always important to stretch for the same reason ... and it just makes you feel better 👨‍⚕️👍 - Andrew Alward DPM RUNNERSWORLD.COM Could Your Nagging Pain Actually Be a Symptom of Nerve Damage?
