Welcome Autumn!
If you are prone to sinus infections you may not think to visit the dentist. Well, perhaps you should. Tooth infections (abscesses) can cause sinus infections. And, conversely, a sinus infection can make you feel like you have a toothache!
How can it be that 2020 has felt so very long, but we are surprised that the end of the year is approaching and that means taking advantage of your dental benefits. Most dental insurances cover two cleanings and exams at little or no cost. If you have dental insurance and haven’t had your second visit (or first) for the year, now’s the time to take advantage of your benefits and schedule your appointment. If you do not have insurance, don’t worry. Give us a call and let’s get you scheduled.

We do need to know your medical history. We do not want to annoy anyone over being asked about their medical history. We need to know about medications and recent surgery (large, small, replacement, etc.). Anything that happens in your mouth can have an impact on the rest of your body as well as medications causing side effects within your mouth. Asking about your medical history isn’t because we are curious. We are looking out for your own health and safety.

Kevin Bacon's Mango-Slicing Trick and Other Ways to Rid Food Between Your Teeth
It’s really tempting to graze all day during the holiday season, but this puts our teeth more at risk of decay. Instead of leaving food out until all hours, set up specific times of the day to set the table for people to eat. These can be sit-down meals or buffet style, but it’s important that there is a definite beginning and ending to these times. This will help keep everyone from constantly reaching for food that’s high in sugar and fat.

Time for the Winter Solstice...
Did you Know? Charles Dickens published "A Christmas Carol" on December 19, 1843. This book has been adapted into 6 dozen and counting versions (radio, film, television, stage and musical) from the 1901 silent film called Scrooge, or, Marley's Ghost to the 2009 full CGI 3D Jim Carrey version, and more. Candy Cane Caution - Hard candy is yummy and available at the holidays from candy canes to peppermints, but it can crack your teeth if you bite down wrong. It may be better to let candies dissolve to prevent any chipping or other damage – but be sure to brush thoroughly after eating candy of any kind.

Sharing is caring, but not for toothbrushes! Sharing a toothbrush can mean you’re also sharing germs and bacteria. This could be a particular concern if you have a cold or flu to spread, or a condition that leaves your immune system compromised. (Keep spare toothbrush and travel toothpaste for guests who may need to brush.)

Happy Hot Tea Day! In their natural form, coffee and tea can be healthy beverage choices. Of course, many people can’t resist adding sugar or sugary creamer. Caffeinated coffee and tea can also dry out your mouth. Frequent drinks of coffee and tea may also stain your teeth. If you love hot tea and coffee make sure to drink plenty of water and try to keep the add-ons to a minimum.

It's Make a Friend Day! We would love to meet any of your friends so they can become our friends as well.
It seems that today has been named Toothache day.
What about toothache prevention charms? Carry a bag or handful of horse’s teeth. Others said that putting your left sock on first would prevent a toothache, unless it were the dog days of summer, in which case, the order reversed. Of course, some say tight shoes cause toothaches. What do you think?
We always talk of floss. Dental floss was originally made of fine silk thread, and replaced by nylon in the 1940s and 1950s. Silk sounds luxurious, but we’ll stick with the improved version of nylon.

It’s National Nutrition Month and since Spring is here we usually means the start of seeing more fresh fruits and veggies in the store. Fruits and veggies are an important part of any balanced diet, and they are also good for your teeth. They help to balance the sugars they contain and help to clean your teeth. Chewing also helps to stimulate saliva production, which washes harmful acids and food particles away from your teeth.
