Daniel Sugai, MD now takes appointments on their Page.
Today is Melanoma Monday! As per the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), check yourselves today and your loved ones. Some pointers:
1. Most common site for melanoma to occur is the back for men and legs for women.
2. Know your ABCDEs of Melanoma:
Asymmetry- you want your moles to be equal in both horizontal and vertical axes
Border- irregular or scalloped/jagged borders are more concerning
Color- one or two colors in a mole may be okay, but a lot of variation is a red flag
Diameter- moles that have grown larger than 6mm or the size of a pencil eraser should be evaluated
Evolution- perhaps the most important...any change in color, size, or shape and you should have this evaluated by a dermatologist.
3. Have any "ugly duckling" moles evaluated by your dermatologist. Any mole that sticks out "like a sore thumb" or is symptomatic (bleeding, painful) should be checked out.
