Most floaters are small flecks of a protein called collagen. They’re part of a gel-like substance in the back of your eye called the vitreous.

Dr. Willcoxon is an optometrist who joined Gilbert Eyecare with a dedication to providing primary eye care for her patients. Her areas of interest include (CRT) specialty contact lenses for myopia (near-sightedness) control, pediatrics, and the treatment and management of ocular diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataracts.
Dr. Willcoxon is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She studied at Emory University in Atlanta where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and Anthropology. She then traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to complete her Doctor of Optometry (O.D) studies and later graduated Cum Laude from Southern College of Optometry. Her training includes an internship with Georgia Eye Partners in Atlanta with an emphasis on the management of ocular disease, surgical co-management, and specialty contact lenses. She also trained at a local private optometric practice in Portsmouth, VA, where she practiced full-scope optometry, including family eye care. Once in Virginia, she fell in love with Virginia Beach and decided to stay!
Dr. Willcoxon is a proud member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association, and the Tidewater Optometric Society. She is also certified to fit a special type of contact lens to reduce myopia in her young patients.
In her free time, you can find Dr. Willcoxon relaxing at the beach, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with her dog, a treeing walker coonhound named Dune.
