Yeast infections are something we don’t talk about very openly, but man are they annoying! Instead of spending tons of cash on questionable products, try boric acid: Boric acid is used in various pharmaceutical products but you can also get it on its own without a prescription. Fill gelatin capsules with boric acid capsules and insert them into the vagina at the first signs of a pesky yeast infection. Call us to set up an appointment. #GetWell #LiveWell #AgeWell
The most common method of administering acupressure healing treatments is through massage. This involves addressing areas of imbalance with massage and knowledge of specific acupoints to return the body into balance. Using varying pressures on the body without actually puncturing the skin (as acupuncture does), acupressurists manipulate the ‘chi’ energy of the body away from areas of stagnation. These are believed to cause health problems if left untreated. Acupressure is a much less invasive style of energetic treatment than acupuncture, which uses needles to pierce the skin in areas of energy blockages.
One of the most widely known methods of acupressure is also known as ‘tapping’ and is considered a practice in itself. This involves literally tapping the surface of the skin above specific acupoints and meridian lines to access the energy which lies beneath them, to redirect them to a state or place of balance. Tapping is especially effective at treating and healing emotional distress and trauma, as it is less invasive and is performed with heightened sensitivity than some other acupressure methods. The vital thing to note with this method is that tapping involves us literally ‘tapping in’ to the existing healing power within the body—this means that it already resides within us—we just need a little help to access it!

Ancient Chinese acupressurists used acupoints in the facial area as a way to enhance the physical features, achieving muscle tone and increasing circulation to give the facial features a brighter glow. The ‘heavenly appearance’ and ‘facial beauty’ acupoints are said to improve skin condition and tone the connective tissues and muscles in the face. It is also noted that this helps to remove wrinkles and reduce the need for surgery or other facial manipulations. There are simple pressure techniques to do this, which release tension in the facial muscles and allow for the correct flow of energy in this area, which reduces the likelihood of ruddiness and congestion of the skin. Would you try acupressure as a beauty treatment?
In the last few years, you’ve likely seen dozens of articles touting the wonders of coconut oil. Let’s get one thing straight: Coconut oil will clog your pores. Don’t use it on your face if you’re prone to acne and blackheads. Instead, try lighter oils like jojoba and sesame oil. Call us to set up an appointment. #GetWell #LiveWell #AgeWell
Low carb diets don’t work as well as simply incorporating more protein! Swap trail mix for whole nuts or optimize your salad by tossing in lentils, beans, and walnuts! Also, eat dinner earlier so that your body has more time to digest before you fall asleep. As for exercise, one of the best exercises that you can do is walk! Try getting in a few steps after every meal. In fact, the Chinese have a saying that translates to, “If you walk one hundred steps after each meal, you’ll live to 99.” Call us to set up an appointment. #GetWell #LiveWell #AgeWell
Many studies reveal the positive effect acupressure can have on cancer development, asserting that it may prevent the onset of cancer or slow the onset of specific symptoms, such as chemotherapy-related pain and fatigue. Acupressure has also been known to soothe symptoms of chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting, too.

Although this point is located on the inner lower arm towards the wrist crease, it originates in the heart. It provides relief for nausea, anxiety, carpal tunnel syndrome, motion sickness, headaches, and is even used for regulation of heart palpitations in some! As this point is known to open and release the chest area, it is particularly useful in aiding the de-congestion of arteries in cardiovascular disorder patients. You can stimulate this point by applying light pressure to the inner wrist area with varying degrees of intensity, depending on the imbalance you are treating.

You may have seen people with perfectly circular welts on their back and wondered what happened -- it was probably cupping! Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts a few glass cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People do this for all sorts of purposes, including pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and well being. It can also be thought of as a type of deep-tissue massage! Have you ever tried or heard of cupping before? Call us to set up an appointment. #GetWell #LiveWell #AgeWell
Reflexology is a form of acupressure that focuses primarily on the pressure points and energetic spots in the feet, hands, and ears. It’s regularly offered in spas as an individual treatment or alongside a massage because the coupling offers an energy-balancing experience. Acupressure involves the body as a whole, and yet, there are so many unique pressure points with corresponding meridian lines situated in these extremities. The practice of reflexology has developed a means of accessing these points individually. Some major organs and systems are said to correspond to the pressure points in the extremities to which reflexology attends, such as the bladder and a specific point in the arch of the foot. Although reflexology is not used to cure or diagnose disease, many people use it as a means to complement conventional treatment for illnesses such as anxiety, asthma, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Nuts and seeds are among the most beneficial sources of protein and nutrients for plant-based or vegan eaters, yet also contribute hugely to a regular diet too! Among those seeds are Flax seeds as well as the ultra-chic (among the health conscious) chia seeds. Both of these are high in omega-3 fatty acids. This means they're good for your heart. Another reason they’ve earned their stance as superfoods is because of their high fiber content- they can boost the fiber content of many meals simply by adding them in! There really are a million ways to enjoy them! Try them ground up with other heart-healthy foods, such as dried blueberries, cranberries, or oatmeal or even blended with soy milk and fruit to create a smoothie! How do you like your chia seeds?
