Imaging of a severe retinal hemorrhage before and after surgery. 81 year old patient comes into the office with sudden loss of vision after waking up in the left eye only. Visual acuity pre-surgery was hand motion. Visual acuity post- surgery was count fingers. She is expected to show more improvement over the next few weeks.

Every Retina is different from the next, much like a fingerprint. Each is unique and detailed. The first retina is an example of a healthy, more pigmented, dark eyed, 27 year old female. This retina displays a wet-appearance (called the sheen of the retinal nerve fiber layer) indicating this is a younger eye. The next example shows the retina of a light eyed 57 year old male with an Epiretinal Membrane. You may notice the wrinkled appearance in the very center of the patient’s Macula. An Epiretinal Membrane is a thin fibrous tissue that can develop and may cause visual disturbances.
