Office Updates for the safety of our Patients & Staff
UPDATED as of 5/6/2020 ***Attention*** The Massachusetts Dental Society recommends that all dental offices close their offices from March 17th to May 18th to patients seeking elective and non-urgent care, this includes all dental cleanings. As always, Dr. Silvia will continue to be available for emergency care such as extractions, root canals, and oral pain. In light of COVID-19, we wanted to ensure all of our patients that we have always and will continue to follow universal precautions and infection control procedures. This means we sterilize and clean absolutely everything used/touched in any form of dental/dental hygiene treatment as if they were infectious. Our office also recommends following the CDC guidelines such as proper hand hygiene and cough/sneeze etiquette. We do ask if you are not feeling well to please reschedule your appointment. We are asking the same of all our staff members some of the common symptoms are cough, fever, and shortness of breath. For more info about the virus click the CDC's website, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html Sincerely, Dr. Silvia and Staff
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! Brushing can start before a child’s first tooth erupts to “practice” and help the child get use to the routine. You can use a wet facecloth and slowly rub the gums or when their first tooth comes in use a baby toothbrush. The ADA (American Dental Association) recommends only using a smear of toothpaste for children under 3 yrs old and a pea-sized amount for children 3-6yrs old. ADA reports it is safe to use regular fluoride toothpaste on all ages now. This is essential for the proper tooth development and fights against childhood cavities. Here are some DO’s & DON’Ts to help your child have great oral health: •Do supervise your child brushing until roughly the age of 10 yrs old. •Don’t put your child to bed with a bottle of milk – sipping milk all night is a cause to childhood dental decay (cavities). Water is a great alternative! •Don’t have them sip on juices throughout the day also results in a high risk of developing cavities due to the acidity of the fruit juices •Do have your child floss at least 1x/day. Flossing can be difficult for children, floss picks and water flossers are a great tool!
Waterpik is an American Dental Association approved water flosser. This product helps flush out anything in-between your teeth, under your gums, and around dental work such as crowns, implants, and braces. They are especially great for patients who have a history of gum disease or a difficult time flossing. Waterpik water flossers are to be used alongside regular flossing for optimal results. There are many different units available so you can decide which product works best for you. There is a cordless option, a travel sized Waterpik, and even a whitening option. There is also a brand new unit called the Sonic Fusion. This is a toothbrush-water flosser combo where you have the option to do both actions simultaneously. As dental professionals, we stand by this flossing aid product and can answer any of your questions you may have! The video below shows how the Waterpik compared to brushing alone. https://www.waterpik.com/oral-health/
