Here is something about toothbrushes. Fifteenth century Chinese
made bamboo-handled toothbrushes. The bristles were made of stiff neck hairs of Siberian boars. You had to be rich to afford these brushes. The nylon brushes of today were introduced in
1937 and are not as coarse. Better for the gums. The tooth brushes of today are more readily available. The ancients used imported Chinese silk to clean between their teeth. People use nylon floss today. Whatever worked through the ages was good for the time. The important thing is to use it to get the results.
Fall is here and the kids have been back to school for several
weeks. Its the season for pumpkins, pumpkin pie, hot cider and lots of halloween candy. See that the young ones brush alot because that sugar can eat through those primary teeth. And we know that plenty of gummy bears and swedish fish are going
to be consumed. So enjoy the season, get your checkups, and
and have some great family time.
Today is September 1. It is hard to believe summer is almost gone.
Soon we will be turning our attention from sandcastles and beach umbrellas to pumpkins and apple picking. As many children head to school in the next weeks, we would like to remind you to have your teeth cleaned and dental checkups for the coming fall
season. an interesting fact: consider the pelican. Its beak can hold
more than its belly. Pelican is also the name of a 19th century instrument made expressly to extract teeth from both men and women. Brushing and flossing will prevent the use of a pelican or similar instrument on your pearly whites. Have a great day!
An interesting fact. Pearl Gray was a New York dentist. In 1904
he quit dentistry. He then changed his first name to Zane. He wrote 60 westerns and became a hit. His book Riders of the Purple
Sage sold 2 million copies. And he used his own money to have
it published. and It was filmed 3 times. He definitely was a Manhatten Cowboy.
An interesting story.. At a point in time sharp tools became available for removing tarter from teeth. At that time it was observed that the brittle, calcified substance literally popped
off like the scales of a fish being cleaned with a knife.
And today's dental professionals call it "scaling." Nowadays
sharp stainless steel scalers are used. About two centuries ago
diamond-tipped instruments were common, as metals could not hold the sharp edge. Have a great day!
