Marco Bologna, M.D., is a cardiovascular surgeon and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. Baptist Hospital and the Baptist Health Cardiac & Thoracic Surgical Group have been recognized by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for achieving the highest rating of three stars for outstanding results in coronary artery bypass surgery. Dr. Bologna is Board-certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He received his medical degree from the Luiz Razetti School of Medicine at the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. He completed a research fellowship in transplant services at Texas Heart Institute, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. He then completed a surgical internship and residency at Metropolitan Group of Hospitals, University of Illinois, Chicago. In addition, he was a cardiovascular surgery Fellow in the division of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a Fellow in complex aortic surgery in the division of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. Most recently, he was an attending surgeon at a variety of hospitals in Broward County, including Holy Cross, Coral Springs, Plantation General and Broward General Hospitals. He has lectured extensively and published results of cardiovascular surgery studies in numerous medical journals. His special interests include complex open-heart surgery, aortic valve procedures, coronary bypass, mitral valve repair and replacement, surgery of the aorta and the maze procedure for atrial fibrillation.
