It's time to get flu vaccines! We want our Henderson children and families to be armed and prepared for what otherwise could be a rocky fall/winter season, given that flu AND coronavirus are/will be in our midst. Give us a call to set up a flu vaccine visit. . . or a check-up visit with overall vaccine catch-up, if your child has gotten behind. Stay well, friends! https://www.checkupnewsroom.com/pediatrician-calls-this-seasons-flu-vaccine-the-most-important-of-our-lives/ CHECKUPNEWSROOM.COM Pediatrician Calls This Season's Flu Vaccine The Most Important Of Our Lives
Happy back to school, everyone, whether virtual, home school, or in person! Wear masks, stay safe, but also enjoy it! Check out this cutie with her owl (perfectly on theme!). She is ready to learn and in fact told me she wants to study to be a doctor, the kind who takes care of kids and big people both! Hooray!--Dr. Shaw
Will be back in the office next week from maternity leave. Thanks for all of the kindness and well wishes for our baby boy. I am really looking forward to seeing everybody!! -Dr. Hamilton
So many questions these days, right? And none easy to answer, as all of this COVID-19 decision-making is uncharted territory. . . Here are thoughts to consider when you have a new baby at home. https://www.checkupnewsroom.com/during-covid-19-pandemic-when-can-you-have-visitors-over-to-meet-your-newborn/ CHECKUPNEWSROOM.COM During COVID-19 Pandemic, When Can You Have Visitors Over to Meet Your Newborn?
Oh wow was this superstar ready for her check-up! And she was ready to do some doctoring, too— check out her monogrammed white coat and Doc McStuffins T-shirt! I’m thinking we all need a little TLC these days, so I was so glad to learn she is so on top of it😊. Thanks for adding some love and fun to the visit!—Dr. Shaw “Stretch and flex... Get ready for action!”— Doc McStuffins
October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. Recognizing all the babies and infants gone too soon. And the grief their families feel. One in four women have experienced this loss and pain, also depicted in this scene from Pixar’s movie “Up.” There is no foot too small to leave an impact on this world.
There is a ton of scary cuteness going on these days! Happy October, Everyone! And, since even Halloween needs to be a little different this year due to COVID-19 and safety concerns, see this link for some great ideas for new and safe but still fun traditions. https://www.checkupnewsroom.com/experts-urge-new-halloween-traditions-over-trick-or-treating-as-covid-19-spread-continues/
As we get toward the end of the month, let’s give another shout-out to our October Employee of the Month, Gavriella Snyder. Go, Gavi— thank you, and we love you! ( I’m case you missed it, see earlier post to get to know Gavi better).
Happy birthday shout out to Dr. Jones. We wish we could do more to celebrate you!
Say hello to Batgirl— so cute! Happy Halloween, Henderson!

Times like these — with the stressors of this awful pandemic and more — call for some Texas grit! I adore this cowboy who came in to see me today!— Dr. Shaw
The passing of the tiara from Cook Henderson’s October Employee of the Month, Gavi Snyder, to November’s Employee of the Month, Stacey Godso. Hooray for you both!💗💗 To learn more about these great members of our team, see their bios in prior posts below.
Trouble-Shooting We briefly interrupt your Thanksgiving holiday with a trouble-shooting pearl—if you are users of the parent portal, please update your app. The updated app has been recently branded as MyCookChildrens (still through MyChart). We have learned that some folks are trying to send portal messages through the older, unupdated app, and the notes are not coming through. We don’t want any of our families/patients to fall through the cracks, so update now, and then go back to eating leftovers😊. Stay well!
Happy holidays, Everyone, from all of us at Henderson! We are thankful for YOU. Note that Zoom has lifted its 40 minute max for Thanksgiving Day— that flexibility might help your virtual celebrations. Enjoy your holidays and your loved ones, but please do so in a way that keeps you safe and healthy! See the video below (I’m in this video— not really looking my best, which I’m choosing to blame on a weird zoom angle, but here goes...)— Dr. Shaw https://www.wfaa.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/cook-childrens-doctors-make-public-plea-to-stay-home-during-holiday/287-af0c99c1-de0d-4cf1-a2e5-5c573c830171 WFAA.COM Cook Children's doctors urge people to stay home during the holiday

I am so grateful for every single person involved in the development and delivery of this vaccine. #WeAreCookChildrens #ThisIsOurShot
Congratulations to Ashley Sugg, January's Cook Henderson Employee of the Month! Ashley works the business side of the office and is instrumental to our office's day to day functioning, as well as being-- in the words of our office manager-- "a thoughtful and caring person who always goes the extra mile." At work, she is mostly at her desk, putting out mini-fires in her extremely calm, agreeable, and industrious way, sitting in the very center of the maze which is our office. She works diligently there and also steps in to help wherever needed--you have probably heard her voice as you have checked in by phone or called with questions, and, if you've done any telemedicine visits, she may have helped you navigate that, too. She knows the ins and outs of insurance coverage and billing codes. She has been a part of Cook Children's for 11 years and has worked at our Henderson location for almost 3 of those years. Ashley was born and raised in Texas, in Grand Prairie to be exact. She and her husband were high school sweethearts and have been together 20 years, married for 13 of those years. She was a cheerleader in high school, and he played football and baseball. Now they live in Midlothian with their two children, Brooklynn (age 12) and Austin (age 9). Both kids play softball/baseball, so Ashley says she and her family spend most of their days on a baseball field. If she could travel anywhere right now, Ashley would choose Hawaii, as she describes the beach as her happy place. She loves eating Mexican food, especially from On the Border. Otherwise, she likes fruit, salty foods, pickles, sour candy, water (I'm chuckling that water made the short list!), coffee, and--true to her Texas roots-- Dr. Pepper! She likes country music and cites NSYNC boy band as her high school jam. Her favorite movie is The Notebook, which she feels is "the best love story ever!" And, as far as TV, which she admits to watching a lot of these days, she likes Grey's Anatomy, This Is Us, Selena, lifetime movies, and scary movies. She likes reading self-help books, as she says "we have to make sure we take care of us to take care of others!" Her favorite thing to do outside of work and supporting the kids' in their sports is shopping. She also spends time working out-- "I don't really enjoy it," she says, "but our bodies need it!" We at Henderson appreciate Ashley so much for all she does. This month is for you, Ashley-- thank you for your dependability, your knowledge, your diligence, your sweet personality, your calm demeanor, and your team spirit. You so deserve this celebration-- we are cheering for YOU! Hooray! --Dr. Shaw

Before we move on to the announcement of February’s Henderson Employee of the Month, we give one last hooray for our January honoree, the wonderful Ashley Sugg. She is shown here with the office snacks of her choice, displayed festively for her. We are so thankful for Ashley’s diligence, knowledge and know-how, positive outlook, sense of calm, and kindness. Yay for Ashley! Thank you so much for all you do— we love you!
Hello, Henderson Families, We hope all of you are staying well, safe, and warm. The picture is of one of Dr. Shaw’s dogs, Heidi, who has found her new favorite place to be... We wanted to let you know that, due to the inclement weather and dangerous road conditions, our office has limited staffing in person for today and possibly the next couple of days. There is still the option of in-person appointments for those who need us and can get to us safely. However, please keep in mind that we are also happy to schedule telemedicine visits and will have our usual phone triage 24/7. As always, for non-urgent issues, there is also the option of messaging us through the Cook parent portal/my chart. If you have an appointment and know that you would like or need to reschedule it, please call (lead time is appreciated;)). We are thinking of you and are here for you! Best Wishes, Cook Henderson’s Healthcare Team
Before we introduce the March Henderson Employee of the Month, here is one last bit of applause for our lovable and wonderful February honoree, Nessa. She is shown with her chosen snack— we enjoyed delicious fruit cups and loved the chance to celebrate her.
Great news! Cook Children's has updated visitor policy!!
Cook Children's Henderson office will continue to follow CDC guidelines and recommendations.
