Drew A. Stein, MD, treats all types of orthopedic injuries with a specialty in sports medicine, at his practice in the Midtown area of New York City. Sports medicine injuries include shoulder dislocations, shoulder separations, shoulder instability, shoulder rotator cuff tears, shoulder biceps injuries, shoulder labral injuries, elbow biceps, and triceps injuries, knee ligament or cartilage tears, knee osteochondral defects, ankle ligament, and tendon injuries.
Dr. Stein specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle. This includes arthroscopic shoulder rotator cuff repairs, labral repairs, and shoulder stabilization procedures. His knee expertise includes arthroscopic ligament reconstructions, meniscus repair, tendon repairs, and cartilage procedures.
After completing his undergraduate training at Boston University, where he graduated with honors studying physical therapy, Dr. Stein earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed an internal medicine internship at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and a general surgery internship at New York University Medical Center.
Dr. Stein completed his orthopedic residency training at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. While at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, he was honored with the chief resident responsibilities for the residency program.
Next, Dr. Stein did a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Pennsylvania with mentors that included Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, Dr. Craig Morgan, and Dr. Brian Sennett. During his fellowship, Dr. Stein participated in sports medicine care with several professional sports teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, and Philadelphia Kixx. He was the in-house team physician at the 2001 and 2002 summer training camps for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dr. Stein is on the teaching faculty at New York University Langone Medical Center as an assistant clinical professor and teaches residents in the operating room. He also is on the assistant faculty for national education for the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and assists in teaching surgical skills to residents from around the country. Dr. Stein is also involved in industry consulting to assist companies with the development of specific surgical equipment prior to public release. This involves working with industry engineers and cadaver surgery to improve operating room equipment designs for orthopedic sports medicine surgeons.
