We have seen a large number of coughing dogs in the last week, and have confirmed cases from our clinic, multiple other clinics and boarding facilities, and dog parks. This cough appears to be caused by a bacteria called Mycoplasma (based off selected testing) and is responding well to antibiotics and cough medicines. Unfortunately there is no vaccine for this pathogen, and it is proving to be especially contagious. If your dog is coughing please keep them isolated from other pets! If you suspect your dog has caught this cough (it does not affect cats) please call us at the office so that we can discuss best treatment. Based on individual circumstances we can decide if a visit is needed or if medicine can be prescribed for you to pick up!
