As part of the initial effort for riverfront beautification, Eby was hired by the City of Wichita for the construction of the new Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center (built to commemorate Wichita’s 1970 centennial). Century II opened its doors for business on January 11, 1969. ⌛ #EbyIconic

👉 In 2013, a 40-story hotel in Tokyo "disappeared", in that it was demolished without explosives or a wrecking ball.
👉 The floors were disassembled by a small crane from inside the building.
👉 The process is like a reverse assembly line, taking apart the structure bit by bit.

At our jobsite for the new Wheatland Electric facility things are going smoothly. Metal framing is underway, and the slab and structural masonry are complete. ✔️
It was an honor to build the addition on the Via Christi Cancer Center for a new state-of-the-art CyberKnife cancer treatment machine.
👉 The addition included a new vault with 4’ and 5’ thick concrete walls and a 3’ thick concrete roof, plus a 16,000-pound door!
👉 The new Cyberknife room has 2 robotic pieces of equipment: the patient bed and the treatment unit. The robots act in unison to make sure the radiation therapy is hitting the targeted area in the patient and not affecting surrounding healthy tissue.
👉 This new Cyberknife is able to treat double the amount of patients as the old version.

One of the world’s largest libraries devoted entirely to rare books and manuscripts, the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library holds approx. 180,000 volumes, and large “windows” made of translucent Vermont marble panels, an inch and a quarter thick, in a Vierendeel truss of steel clad in granite. The marble panels protect the collections from damaging direct sunlight while absorbing and diffusing the exterior light in warm hues on the interior.

Throwback to the beautiful Kansas Leadership Center project. Eby's finish carpenters installed all those amazing wood finishes back in 2013. This new facility was a three-story pre-cast and steel structure and approx. 38,000 SF. It included classrooms, offices, an auditorium, a full-service kitchen and a grand staircase that could function as a mini auditorium for groups of children. #TBT

So how did aqueducts work?
💡 The engineers who designed them used gravity to keep the water moving. If the channel was too steep, water would run too quickly and wear out the surface. Too shallow, and water would stagnate and become undrinkable.
💡The Romans built tunnels to get water through ridges, and bridges to cross valleys.
💡 Once it reached a city, the water flowed into a main tank called a castellum. Smaller pipes took the water to the secondary castella, and from those the water flowed through lead pipes to public fountains and baths, and even to some private homes.
The old Courthouse, built in 1888 on land donated by pioneer D. S. Munger, served as the seat of county government until the new eleven-story building was completed directly across Main Street in 1959.
