On June 19, 1865, more than two and half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, news of freedom finally reached the slaves of Galveston, Texas. The Civil War was over, and slavery was abolished.
More than 150 years later, Juneteenth is recognized by Americans as a national commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
No matter where we come from, no matter who we love, no matter what color we are, we continue our quest towards a better tomorrow. Join us in celebrating Freedom by celebrating Juneteenth.
Today, we remember those who gave all in the pursuit of freedom.
