Emery H. Chang, MD

About

Dr. Chang received his MD from the University of Minnesota and completed a dual residency in Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at Tulane University. In New Orleans, he worked at the Charity and University hospitals, the Veteran Affairs Hospital, Tulane Medical Center, and the Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He joined the UCLA Center for AIDS Research & Education (CARE) as an HIV fellow in 2005 and joined the faculty in 2006. His concentration is HIV primary and preventative care in adults and adolescents.
In addition to his clinical work, he has been involved in a number of UCLA training programs including the Combined Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Residency Program, the Med-Peds Transition Care Consult Service, the LGBTQ Primary Care Fellowship, and the LGBTQ Early Authentic Clinical Experience. Further, he is the founding director for the LGBTQ Lecture Series, the founding co-chair of the UCLA Health Pride! Employee Resource Group, and involved in various LGBTQ programs throughout the UCLA Health system. He is also involved in a number of clinical trials in HIV, HIV/AIDS-related cancers, and COVID-19.
Globally, he has volunteered with the Clinton Foundation as an HIV mentor in rural Rwanda in 2006. This work has grown into the Ihangane Project/TIPS Global Health which supports the local health system with a solar power panel installation, an HIV-exposed and other high-risk infants' nutrition program, developing a mobile electronic record, and other initiatives to improve quality of care in Rwanda.
His other interests include the Hollywood Bowl, hiking, skiing, cooking, baking, power yoga, and travel.
