There is power in partnership and prayer. We have great news to share! After identifying an isolated positive case of COVID-19 in a staff member earlier this week at Emmanuel Home, we were able to mobilize quickly in an effort to mitigate the virus. While working closely in partnership with the local and state health department and Geisinger’s Rapid Response Healthcare Coalition Program, within 24 hours of identifying the isolated case we were able to complete contact tracing, Universal COVID-19 testing on all staff and residents, and inform all of our families. We are thankful to report that all other tests have come back negative. A special thank you to Geisinger’s RRHCP team, Maryann Lynn, Ginger Billman, and Kimberly Delbo for testing all of our residents and staff this week. It was a pleasure partnering with Geisinger to promote the health and safety of vulnerable older adults within our community.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall day for some sunshine and fresh air! Our residents enjoyed getting outdoors for some swing time, walking, reminiscing, and sharing their favorite fall activities and recipes! With social distancing we are limited in what we can do, but a day filled with sunshine and fellowship was much needed. Vernetta was the winner of our pumpkin guessing contest! ☀️ 🍂🍁
Happy first day of autumn! Our Administrator and Director of Nursing went to the Marks’ Family Farm this weekend for some fall decorations and sunflowers that they picked with love right from the field! Come check out our decorations and pre-schedule a visitation with your loved one! Thank you for your generosity, Marks Family Pumpkin Farm, our residents are enjoying the cheery sunflowers and fall decor! 🍂🌻 🍁
Our residents at Emmanuel Home enjoyed playing BINGO today and pre-scheduled family visitations on this beautiful fall day!
“But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.... Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.” Luke 10:33-35
Why do we provide Personal Care for the elderly at Emmanuel Home?
We simply follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ in the gospel of Luke, where the Lord Jesus journeyed, having compassion, bringing a man in need of care to an inn. At that inn the Lord Jesus personally took care of him, binding up his wounds and providing for his ongoing daily care and needs.
What a wonderful privilege for us at Emmanuel Home, having an inn where souls can be compassionately cared for daily, until the Lord comes again.
“It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
Beautiful day!

Beautiful day for our annual Fall Festival! We are excited to take it outside this year! 🍁🍂
As we prepare for reopening and resuming scheduled visitation we would like to remind everyone that all visitors must wear a face mask on Emmanuel Home property, use hand sanitizer, and practice social distancing. Please postpone visitation if you have any flu or COVID related symptoms. We encourage you to get your flu shot if you haven’t already. Stay healthy!

Despite the COVID-19 virus surge, let’s take a moment to count our blessings! Share below one thing you are thankful for.
Santa Claus made an early visit to Emmanuel Home today! Our residents and staff enjoyed seeing him ride around Emmanuel Home on his red scooter. Thank you for warming our hearts by spreading Christmas cheer, Matt and Carla Duke Ferry! ♥️
Your kindness to our residents and staff in the midst of a pandemic, humbles our hearts, Angela and Jeffrey Hummel and family. Your compassion and empathy are a beautiful fragrance of encouragement. Thank you for the stories and poinsettias which bring us hope for brighter days. “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you...” Philippians 1:3-5 ❤️
Pictured with the poinsettias are Emmanuel Home staff members Heather and Alexis.
Our residents were given these homemade bookmarks and hand written cards to lift their spirits this week! Truly, because of Jesus, we have everything we need! Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift! ♥️
Thank you, Angela Taylor Hummel and family for your kindness and thinking of our residents.

The last 10 months have been challenging to say the least but the last several weeks we experienced an outbreak. Our hearts go out to the family members of our residents. We are thrilled to report that the quarantine has been lifted at Emmanuel Home. All residents and staff have tested negative for the virus for two consecutive weeks. We are so thankful to the Lord for this Christmas miracle and all those who have prayed for us. Our amazing team of dedicated frontline healthcare workers did an extraordinary job with virus mitigation efforts over the last several weeks. We truly could not be more proud of them and their tireless efforts! It was great to see so many smiles today just in time to celebrate the joyful Christmas season!
Congratulations to Emmanuel Home’s very own Ginger Billman who graduated from the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center tonight. Ginger has been a dedicated CNA at Emmanuel Home for 21 years! We are so proud of you, Ginger! May God bless you as you continue to allow Him to use you as you minister and care for others. 👏🏻♥️

Your best protection from COVID-19 will be a combination of getting a COVID-19 vaccine, wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet away from others, avoiding crowds, and washing your hands often. No one tool alone is going to stop the pandemic. Learn about the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination so you’ll be ready when a vaccine is recommended: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/about-vaccines/vaccine-benefits.html

Here is a flashback of Bob and Gabriel at Emmanuel Home. Bob and Kim’s children have grown up serving the residents at Emmanuel Home over the last 20 years. This year Gabe left his full time position as a CTICU nurse at Duke to come and help us in the midst of the pandemic staffing crisis. He’s been such a blessing along with the remainder of our dedicated and compassionate team.

Many of our residents at Emmanuel Home like to crochet as a past time. Although they didn’t make this, maybe we should have them start, then we can sell them as a fundraiser! 😂
Our residents “built” a snowman in our activity room earlier this week while reminiscing about wintertime activities of the past! ❄️⛄️⛸
Winter’s Window (An Alliteration Poem)
Winter’s window
opens to nature’s
majestic masterpiece…
silvery stars signal
snow’s silently slipping away
moonbeams magnificently
illuminate a winter wonderland
delicate diamonds silently settle
in a white blanket of lustrous lights
swirling winds whisper
gentle gestures of welcome
until creatures awaken to the sun’s golden glow
morning makes its mellifluous appearance
It’s Groundhog’s Day! Our residents enjoyed a Punxsutawney Phil Breakfast with the option of sunny side up or scrambled eggs and bacon and fruit, served with toast or a variety of danish this morning. This afternoon we will enjoy a Groundhog Day Movie Marathon. We will be showing the 1993 movie, Groundhog Day, featuring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, throughout the day in our Lobby!
Thankful for snow moving equipment!
James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

We had the blessing of celebrating a surprise socially distanced 109th Birthday party for our dear, Esther this weekend! Her family was able to join us virtually from around the country using Zoom. When Esther was asked what her secret is to living 109 years she confidently said “only God!” 💕💜

Check this out! One of Emmanuel Home’s amazing healthcare heroes, Jane, made it to prime time last evening! You can find Jane’s story at the 25.34min mark. She was interviewed last week by PBS NewsHour and the episode aired last night. The episode was aimed at promoting health equity and COVID-19 vaccination among hesitant Americans. We are so proud of Jane and our amazing, resilient team at Emmanuel Home Personal Care!
People like Jane are the true heroes of this pandemic. Jane has been employed as a CNA for 44 years. Within a 4 week period spanning November and December, she lost her father, contracted the virus, returned to work and went home to find her beloved husband had also passed away. Jane amazes us everyday. She continues to show up and humbly serve our vulnerable residents without any fanfare, just a heart full of compassion, dignity, and respect. ♥️

Too often during the COVID-19 pandemic, the stories of those in our nursing homes, personal care homes and assisted living communities have been told through data points and spreadsheets.
