Some of the best prayers are borrowed and this one has been being borrowed for a VERY LONG TIME. It is commonly referred to as “The Jesus Prayer,” and it has been used by Christians, since at least the 5th century, to reorient themselves to the love and forgiveness of God. We really appreciate Jonathan Martin’s reflection on what this prayer is all about. (You can find it on the 3rd slide)
•
When you get a few minutes, make this your prayer, identify the things that are keeping you from being present to your life, and reorient yourself to Love.
•
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

In John chapter 2, Jesus is at a wedding party when the wine runs out. The wine always runs out, doesn’t it? We are 10 months into 2020. We’ve all run out of something by now. Joy, patience, hope...actual wine. What do we do then? We have a few thoughts we would love to share with you this Sunday morning. You can tune in on the app, our website, or watch live on the Emmaus Church SC Facebook page at 9am.
History is headed somewhere and that somewhere is good.

Whoever can come up with the best name for our pressure washing crew gets an Emmaus t-shirt and a big piece of bread the next time we are together for Communion. Thanks to everyone who came out and loved on our friends at @nurseryroadelementaryschool.
John Wesley used to ask the question, “How is it with your soul?” Great question, right? So, how is it...your soul? We thought we would share with you some of our favorite go-to’s when it comes to shining a little light in on our insides. Check them out when you get the chance.
•
The Lectio 365 app. If you’re looking for a prayerful approach to reading the scriptures this app is great! It may take some getting used to for those of us who have a hard time sitting still, but that may be just what our soul needs.
•
@everymomentholy is a really wonderful account that offers up quick prayers/liturgies that you can use to catch your breath through out the day.
•
@goodnews_movement is a wonderful place to stop in for, you guessed it, some good news.
•
We would love to hear from you. Share any accounts, apps, and/or resources that you have found especially life giving recently. Bonus points for the ones that make us laugh.
This Sunday the one and only LaToya Reed is sharing a word with us! LaToya serves on our leadership board and brings so much to our community. She will share about the importance of staying on our toes and playing good defense when life is coming at us. You can watch the service on our website, the app, and live on the Emmaus Church SC Facebook page at 9am.

This time of the year stirs us up. It brings some our deepest longings much closer to the surface. You can see it in the movies we watch, you can hear it in the songs that we sing, and you can even witness it in the way we treat each other. For a few weeks we are inclined to at least try and orient ourselves around how the world could be instead of accepting it for how it is. This is what the season of Advent is all about.
•
This week we kick of our Advent series The Light Grows by diving into what advent hope is all about. We would love for you to join us.
•
You can come to our in person service at The River Center located in Saluda Shoals Sunday morning at 10am. Entry to the park is waived. Come through the Bush River Road entrance and follow the signs to The River Center.
•
You can also catch our virtual service on our app, the website, or on the Emmaus Church SC Facebook page at 9am.
Happy Thanksgiving! We have a lot to be thankful for on our first Thanksgiving as a community. Slow it down today, pay attention, eat all the things, take a nap, and laugh a lot. It’s all grace.
Parents! Jingle Jam is a virtual Christmas experience that is sure to be a blast for the whole family. If you get into it, you will be sure to have lots of laughs, create some memories, and learn about Advent. We will make the video link available on our Emmaus Church SC Kids Facebook page starting Sunday, November 29th and it will stay up through December.
•
Be sure to get ahold of the Jingle Jam gift we have put together for your family BEFORE you watch. You can pick yours up at The River Center after service this Sunday. You can even drive up and grab yours if you are not comfortable attending in person. If you are not able to get to The River Center this Sunday, email kids@emmauschurchsc and we will coordinate a time to drop one at your doorstep!
This past Sunday we talked about the gift of gratitude. Gratitude isn’t simply a reaction to joy but many times it is what sparks joy. Gratitude isn’t so much a reaction as it is an inner disposition that stems from an awareness and trust in the goodness of God.
•
We all had a 2 part challenge sent our way. Part 1 is to identify and celebrate 3 new gifts each day this week. Don’t just think about them, but get some paper and write about them every day. Try and move past generalities and get specific. Part 2 of the challenge is to think of someone that has positively influenced your life and write a few paragraphs about them. Write about who they are and how they have impacted your life. Then, if possible, call them up and read them the letter. If they are no longer with us, than call someone else who knew them and read it to them. The more gratitude we share the more joy we experience and the more joy we spread.
•
Let’s make it a meaningful Thanksgiving!
For our first spotlight Sunday we highlighted the great work that Sharing God’s Love is doing in our community. Be sure to follow them on social media so you can stay in the loop on how to support them in their mission.
Students (grades 6-12), and/or parents of students, we have a brand new opportunity for you on Wednesday nights. Join us for MidWeek and the break off with Pastor Nick and other people your age to catch up and further discuss the sermon.
•
MidWeek starts at 7 every Wednesday night. Email info@emmauschurchsc.com for the Zoom link.
MidWeek is a weekly opportunity for you to meet some people in the community and further discuss that week’s message. We would love for you to join us!
•
If you haven’t had a chance to watch the sermon, be sure to do that and then be ready to discuss the following:
Summarize the message in our own words
How did the message encourage you?
How did the message challenge you?
What questions did it leave you with?
What are you going to do with what you have learned?
•
If you don’t have the Zoom link, email us at info@emmauschurchsc.com and we will send it your way.
In a world that’s obsessed with externals it’s easy to feel split-to feel like we are two different people. There’s the “us” everyone sees and then there’s the “us” that we know. This week in worship, we are going to get a sense of how this can get us in all sorts of trouble and what it would look like to take Jesus up on his offer to live an undivided life.
•
We would love for you to join us this Sunday. at 10 am. We meet in person at The River Center located in Saluda Shoals Park. Pull in the Bush River Road entrance and follow the signs to The River Center. Park entry fee is waved. To learn more about our in person gatherings visit www.emmauschurchsc.com.
•
You can also join us on line. We will stream the service to the Emmaus Church SC Facebook page at 10am.
