Every year as a part of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, Encompass Health Braintree has held a Patient Recognition Celebration. Our staff members nominate patients who were particularly inspiring for their courage, motivation and strength. We normally honor these patients and their family members with a dinner event where inspiring stories are celebrated. We were determined that the show must go on this year despite the pandemic, so we got creative. We had a drive-in event where patients tuned into a designated radio station and listened to the event from the safety of their own cars. Staff members delivered an elegant dinner to go, along with a gift and certificate. Cheers, car horns and flashing lights reminded our patients of how much they inspire us and those around them every day.

"This is my first clinical here. I'm a Northeastern physical therapy student. I really liked it off the bat—not just my own clinical instructor, but all other therapists and nurses have made me feel welcome and take teaching moments. They are not afraid to challenge but also do not put me in situations I'm not prepared for. Being a student during the pandemic, I was very nervous in the moment. But looking back on it, this is the type of experience that I should really be thankful for as it makes you appreciate how hard it could be and keeps you on your toes." - Julia, physical therapy student
