On July 12, Mr. Leo McGriff was experiencing shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue and a cough. He drove himself to an urgent care clinic and was sent directly to Washington Regional Medical Center to be assessed. He was admitted immediately and found to be positive for COVID-19. He was placed on a ventilator for 41 days. On Sept. 11, he was admitted to Encompass Health to begin his recovery. On Oct. 7, he graduated from Encompass Health and is now walking, 87 days after his diagnosis and hospitalization. He discharged to his sister’s home to be with his family and watch his nephew play football.

By the second week in the hospital battling COVID-19 and pneumonia, Lafayette Johnson’s lungs collapsed, and his kidneys were shutting down. He had to be placed on a ventilator. By the fourth week, he had a heart attack and was placed on a second life support.
