After developing sepsis, Gayle Fisk lost both of her legs, her left hand and part of her right hand. An endless source of hope and optimism, she discovered a new family at Encompass Health and lives life to the fullest.
Congratulations Ebony on being named our second patient of the year! Ebony came to Encompass Health Austin dependent for all transfers and activities of daily living. She worked very hard and her therapists say she was always trying to get “extra” therapy sessions while still maintaining a part-time status with her employer during her stay with us. Ebony reports that she is doing remarkably well and walking short distances with no device. She is walking to her apartment gym and on the trail close to her apartment. She is working out on her own at her gym and having outpatient physical therapy once a week, swimming and working full time. Ebony would like everyone to know how grateful she is and how much she loved everyone! She is also so thankful for the opportunity to have been able to come to Encompass Health Austin.

Congratulations Kevin on being named one of our Patients of the Year! Kevin came to Encompass Health Austin requiring maximal to total assistance after surviving a stroke. Kevin had a “never give up” attitude and, when possible, did extra walking in the afternoon on the AutoAmbulator. He said the assisted walking made him feel more “normal” and feels it was a big part to his recovery. Kevin’s hard work and diligence paid off and he discharged independent with transfers and all activities of daily living. Kevin reports he is walking “almost normal,” has about 85% of his arm use and is able to drive during “slow” traffic times. He continues to have outpatient physical therapy three days a week along with speech therapy. His goal right now is to walk his daughter down the aisle in January at her wedding.
