Jackie Mullins arrived at Encompass Health with congestive heart failure and was unable to stand, walk or care for herself. After 17 days, she was walking with a rolling walker and could complete all her activities of daily living. Now, she is going home!

Veronica Brown was sent to Encompass Health after a month on a ventilator battling COVID-19. However, after arriving, her limited mobility prompted her doctor to send her back to the hospital for neurological testing.

By the second week in the hospital battling COVID-19 and pneumonia, Lafayette Johnson’s lungs collapsed, and his kidneys were shutting down. He had to be placed on a ventilator. By the fourth week, he had a heart attack and was placed on a second life support. When he finally woke up, he was extremely weak.
“COVID-19 devastated every muscle in my body, and I was in a hospital bed for five months,” he said. “I lost 57 pounds and wasn’t even able to stand up. I didn’t give up—even after dying twice. I came back.”
