Her mom had special shirts made for April and herself to wear on her discharge day from Encompass Health Texarkana. After being weaned off a ventilator after 20 plus days, April was ready for aggressive inpatient rehab to regain strength and independence.
At admission, she was not able to walk at all. At discharge. she was able to walk over 150 feet. April Roberts BEAT COVID 19.

We got together as a hospital and completed a short walk around the building to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease.
After extensive surgery Mr. Odie Green had to be hospitalized for 6 weeks in Little Rock, AR. During that time he was not able to see his family. As a Welcome Home Celebration his family gathered outside on the patio to show their love and support.

Abelino Suarez began his battle with COVID-19 in June. He was admitted to the hospital and required ventilation support then tracheostomy for respiratory failure. Mr. Suarez required further hospitalization at a long-term acute care hospital to stabilize his respiratory status.
After his long hospitalization he was very weak and could not sit on the edge of the bed on his own. Mr. Suarez admitted to our rehabilitation hospital and after a three week stay, he was able to walk down the hallway and out of the front door to return home with his family.

Veronica Brown was sent to Encompass Health after a month on a ventilator battling COVID-19. However, after arriving, her limited mobility prompted her doctor to send her back to the hospital for neurological testing.
The testing revealed a new, post-COVID-19 diagnosis for Brown, Guillain-Barre syndrome, an inflammatory disorder of the nerves that may cause temporary paralysis and is often triggered by a viral infection. See how our team helped Veronica get back on her feet.

By the second week in the hospital battling COVID-19 and pneumonia, Lafayette Johnson’s lungs collapsed, and his kidneys were shutting down. He had to be placed on a ventilator. By the fourth week, he had a heart attack and was placed on a second life support. When he finally woke up, he was extremely weak.
“COVID-19 devastated every muscle in my body, and I was in a hospital bed for five months,” he said. “I lost 57 pounds and wasn’t even able to stand up. I didn’t give up—even after dying twice. I came back.”

Prior to admission to Encompass Health, Mr. Scurlock had leg wounds and swelling, which were keeping him from enjoying time with his family and pets. Mr. Scurlock shared his gratitude for the Encompass Health clinicians, who helped improve his condition.
