Which room in your home would you update the lighting in first?
Ever-Ready ElectriQ: Why should I check a contractor’s license & insurance? A: Some Contractors do NOT carry Liability Insurance. [It’s Expensive] This could prove costly for you, the property owner if there is damage or an accident. Your insurance would be on the hook in the absence of the contractor’s insurance. Why would you want to deal with anyone without proper insurance? Protect your assets, even on small jobs. Ask your Contractor for certificates of Insurance. Legitimate contractors do not mind being asked for this. Also always ask to see the contractor’s license. We all carry proof of current license in our pocket.

Q: Why is it a good idea to permit my electrical projects? A: City and County building codes require permits for almost everything done electrically. If what you are doing is being done by a Professional, it most likely will be done correctly and definitely should be permitted. Having the work inspected gives you some assurance that it was done correctly. When you go to sell your property, realtors and home inspectors could very well ask to see proof that the work was permitted. If you get caught, after the fact, it could cost you penalties and double fees. Why gamble!

Q: Why am I getting shocks from the stucco walls of my home? A: A termite company inspector received a shock while touching the stucco with one hand while the other hand was on the concrete. In essence, the termite inspector was the electrical conductor. As with anything, the key is an accurate diagnosis and that is Ever-Ready Electrics specialty! Our electrician identified the problem to be a piece of stucco wire mesh touching one of the wires on the light switch. The wire mesh was cut away and the problem was corrected. Q: How would you like to cut your electric bill? A: A very interesting and effective system is to not only have a backup generator and solar and a storage system but to combine them and control them with one device. The generator assures you will always have power. The storage system allows you to use your stored electricity during peak PG&E times and then recharge your storage system via solar panels during non-peak times. The solar panels also provide power when the sun shines. It doesn’t get any better than this. Call Ever-Ready Electric. (805) 934-7091

Q: How does my water piping affect my electrical system? A: One of the best electrical safety tips I can give you is to ensure that the water pipe coming from your street is a continuous metal pipe. This is the ground for your electrical system. If it isn’t, you must install ground rods. Grounding your electrical system is critical as it prevents potentially deadly shocks and damage to electrical equipment or appliances. Plumbers will often repair a metal water pipe by installing a plastic piece of pipe. This compromises the integrity of your metal piping system.
