EVERGREEN HEATING AND COOLING
Operations Coordinator
If you have a heat pump system and your unit has frost or ice on it or you have watched it smoke - here is what is going on:
1. Heat pumps have a defrost cycle. When the weather outdoors is really cold and there is moisture in the air, the unit is melting the ice, frost, etc and creating smoke.
2. Heat pumps cannot do their job efficiently when the temperature goes below 28 degrees.
Your heating system should have a back-up heat source of electric heat strips located inside the indoor unit. When your thermostat says "Aux Heat", "Em Heat", "E Heat", etc; it is using the indoor heat strips to keep your home warm and the system is working as it should.
With the extremely cold weather in Central Texas this week, your system will operate in the emergency heat function almost all week.
And... Texas weather is back to normal. If your heating and air conditioning system is not acting normal, call us to come check it out and give it a tune-up.
