Copper can kill a virus in your sleep...
We've long known that copper has tons of very beneficial health uses, but recently research is showing that it can kill viruses too. The ancient Egyptian and Babylonian soldiers learned that if they would take the copper alloy dust that came from sharpening their swords after battle, it would reduce infection and speed up the healing process when they sprinkled it in their wounds. Copper was also used in ancient China, India and Greece to cure a number of medical issues. More current research is proving that copper and its alloys have impressive antibacterial and antiviral properties.
The process involves the release of copper ions. When they come in contact with a bacteria or virus they prevent cell respiration, literally killing it from the inside out. Because this process punches a hole in the cell membrane it destroys the DNA of the bacteria or virus preventing any hope of mutation of the bacteria or virus so it cannot develop a resistance to copper. Studies in both laboratory and several hospital Intensive Care Units have shown up to a 90% reduction in the numbers of live bacteria or virus on their surfaces, and as much as a 58% reduction of infection rates.
So, why is this important to a mattress store? Studies have found that copper infused fabric in bedding is 99.9% effective in destroying viruses, like MRSA and Coronavirus. (It has not yet been tested against COVID-19). Mattress companies are putting copper in mattress foams and fabrics for a two fold effect. 1) copper aids in the cooling process, so that your mattress doesn't retain heat during the night, 2) it helps eliminate harmful viruses, so that you can get a good night's sleep without the worry of getting sick from your mattress.
