FML’s Halloween 2020 Challenge: See how many “Cel Phone Apps” you can identify!
Curbside Care at Family Life Medical
In an effort to provide care in the safest possible fashion, Dr. Scarborough is seeing patients who are at risk for Covid and other contagious illness in front of his clinic.
This reduces exposure in the waiting room to patients being seen for physicals and other issues.
It also helps out patients who feel too sick to come upstairs.
Patients can be evaluated by the doctor and tested for Covid without leaving their vehicles. Results are called to their cel phones, and appropriate treatment is called to the pharmacy.
If you are an ESTABLISHED PATIENT WITH THE CLINIC and need to be seen or screened, give us a call!
COVID VACCINE “The Hunt”
Yes, it is frustrating to get ahead of the curve on this vaccination business.
As predicted, county agencies are now taking up the task of getting vaccinations out to the public.
Montgomery County has already hosted several public vaccination “events” at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. The appointments fill up quickly right now. But they will continue as vaccines arrive.
Here’s how to stay apprised of upcoming events:
Montgomery Public Health Department posts and appointment schedule whenever they receive vaccine. You can sign up at www.mcphd-tx.org. They also have a Call Center 936-523-3916.
Lone Star Family Health Center also administers vaccine at the Fairgrounds when supplies arrive. Find them at www.lonestarvaccine.com.
We will post information here if we receive any more vaccine at our clinic, but it may be a while. Our call back list is currently full.
With time, the vaccine will become commonplace. Until then, follow the precautions we are all so familiar with for a while longer.
Stay safe,
Dr. K
How to Find the COVID vaccine
Most facilities have exhausted their initial supply of vaccine. But more is on the way, and I anticipate that there will soon be public vaccination “events” popping up.
If you are in a high risk groups – over 75, or have compromising health conditions, try to get the vaccine as soon as possible.
Dr. Scarborough will post a notification of any new shipment to our office AS SOON AS WE GET THEM on:
A) Family Life medical website – familylifemedical.com.
😎 The Facebook site – Family Life Medical
C) His office’s outgoing message recording
Please do not call to see when they might get here. We don’t know.
Please do not call to be put on a “call back” list. We tried that, but were overwhelmed with calls. Also, people often getting their vaccines elsewhere, rendering the list obsolete.
To find other vaccine locations:
Go to the Texas Health and Human Services website www.dshs.texas.gov. Look for the “Texas COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Locations Map”. You’ll see a list of all nearby vaccine providers.
Be patient, stay safe.
Kyle Scarborough, M.D.
Our clinic manager worked TIRELESSLY for the last few weeks to certify our clinic as an “authorized Covid vaccine administrator”!
We are now vaccinating fellow healthcare workers, first responders, and high risk seniors. We will soon be able to distribute doses on a wider basis.
We are doing our part to win this battle and protect our county.
And it’s all because of Tammey Scarborough that it’s happening!
She’s truly an angel in our midst.
Thank you, Tammey!
“What’s Going Around” –
Holiday Air Travel
As predicted, Americans are traveling at record pandemic-era rates for the holidays. This, along with home gatherings, will almost certainly lead to the next surge in the spread of the COVID virus.
You must look out for yourself. Last week I outlined tips for reducing risk of spread during family gatherings. As you head home after Thanksgiving, here are some ideas to keep you safe during your travels.
Wear your mask. It’s not just a good idea. Airlines are requiring it. Even with stringent cleaning, common surfaces get touched a lot, so you might also want to wear disposable gloves.
Carry hand sanitizer. Most airlines will now allow you to carry a one ounce bottle, so keep it small.
Carry your own blanket or pillow. Germs stick to them, and you can’t just wipe them down.
Get to the airport early. Screening measures have slowed everything down, so avoid the stress of deadlines. Stress makes people careless.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you have to travel home by plane, plan ahead to stay safe and sane.

What’s Going Around –
The Great 2020 Thanksgiving
Dilemma
Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness. Families reconnect. Students come home from college. Cooler weather keeps us indoors. And, with COVID cases spreading at a record rate, the timing could not be worse.
Most experts suggest that we cancel traditional celebrations altogether. I agree, especially for seniors. But realistically, that’s not going to happen.
So here are some suggestions to offset some of the risk.
Starting now, ask all guests to be vigilant, and even self-quarantine prior to visiting. Incoming guests should get COVID tested, if possible, right before the holiday.
The virus can be transmitted through the air, riding on cough and sneeze droplets. Therefore, wear a mask when not eating. Spread out all over the house with the seating of family and friends.
Dining outdoors on the patio is even better.
It can also be spread by touching common surfaces, so avoid using common serving utensils. Be mindful about shared water pitchers (and wine bottles!).
Place paper towels in bathrooms instead of hand towels.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Until we have a good vaccination, Thanksgiving should be a small celebration.
