Congratulations to two more Fellowship Square Historic Mesa employee Olympics medal winners!
Trisha Dreher, Activities Director and Laura Ontiveros, Activities Coordinator both recently received silver medals!
Recently our Cottonwood Assisted Living team needed some fun activity ideas that our staff could do with residents, easily and inexpensively. A 30-minute Zoom video chat meeting was held where Trisha and Laura shared a variety of great ideas with the Cottonwood staff. They even created a binder with ideas and instructions for them. They truly showed that all of the Christian Care communities are truly family - there for each other when help is needed.
Congratulations to Alex Nava, Maintenance Supervisor. Alex received an employee Olympics silver medal for always being a great team player. During a period of staffing complications, Alex took on extra tasks, worked long hours and always maintained a positive attitude when stress was high. Residents and staff seek Alex's advice when they are confused about something and seeking answers. We are blessed to have Alex on our team!
Read what another one of our valued employees has to say about the joy she finds in caring for our residents...Thank you, Laura for all you do each and every day!

Did you know that it is National Checkers Day?
On September 23, 1952, Vice President candidate, Richard Nixon, gave a speech that was called the “Checkers Speech.” Accused of improprieties relating to a fund established by his backers to reimburse him for his political expenses, Nixon needed to defend himself. His place on the Republican ticket was in jeopardy as well, so he flew to Los Angeles and delivered a half-hour television address. During the speech, Nixon stated that regardless of what anyone said, he intended to keep one gift. The gift was a black-and-white dog the Nixon children had named “Checkers,” thus giving the speech its famous name.
The “Checkers Speech” was seen, or heard, by about 60 million Americans, the largest television audience at that time, and it led to an outpouring of public support.
Thanks to Checkers, Nixon made the ticket, and we celebrate Dogs in Politics Day or better known as National Checkers Day.

While the day doesn't have anything to do with the popular game "Checkers", we used it as an excuse to play this fun favorite!
A little pre-Halloween fun with residents and the "skeleton stomp" social...
The Skeleton Stomp is a modern day cake walk to the music of Monster Mash for cupcakes. The event included other minute-to-win-it holiday themed games such as "Don't Drop The Goblin" and "Catch Your Prey".

Not a trick but a treat this Halloween...a full moon will be visible for most time zones on Earth. This hasn't happened since 1944 and won't happen again until 2039. The full moon also happens to be a blue moon, a designation for the second full moon to occur in a single calendar month. Blue moons are relatively rare as well, occurring on average just once every 2.5 years or so.
Our Life Enrichment team is always finding ways to delight our Independent Living residents. At this year's Halloween social, the team dressed up as the cast from the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz! Also pictured is resident Mary Hoger, this year's costume winner as well as Mr. & Mrs. Jackson who joined in on the fun.

Yesterday we held our first Covid-19 vaccination clinic. Residents were very excited and happy to receive the vaccine. We will be holding another clinic on Saturday. Residents who haven't already registered, should call our Covid-19 Vaccination hotline. (The number was included in the weekly update that was placed on every door.) Our Executive Director, Rena Phillips and Life Enrichment Director, Trisha Dreher were on point to make sure everything ran smoothly.
The Flamingo Fun Run is a modern day version of Arizona’s own Wallace and Ladmo bag giveaway. Our Activities Director, Trisha, and our Activities Coordinators, Sean and Alicia, draw random apartment numbers from each building as a winner for the Fellowship Flamingo Fun Run prize bag. The Flamingo then runs up and gifts the prize bag to the winnesr. Here are two who were fabulously flummoxed by the fantastic Flamingo!
Register now to receive our upcoming virtual education video for seniors and their loved ones: SENIOR SCAM SAFETY.
Great News! We have been diligently working with the Maricopa County Covid-19 Vaccination program and have secured a vaccine clinic for Oasis residents and staff on February 3rd.
We are also taking reservations for vaccines from our Independent Living residents. A special hotline has been set up for these reservations and the phone number has been communicated to all residents via hand delivered notices. (Family members can sign up to receive emailed notices by visiting our Covid-19 page on our website - https://www.fellowshipsquareseniorliving.org/campus/az/historic-mesa/covid-19-updates )
There will be an additional clinic scheduled. The date will be confirmed soon for the additional residents who wish to receive the vaccine on campus. ALL residents will have the opportunity to receive vaccinations here on campus.
One of the theories that has been questioned is whether a humidifier can help prevent seniors from contracting COVID-19. 💧 Fellowship Square explores the current research as it related to if and how these machines can be of benefit. #FellowshipSquare
