The holidays are supposed to be a time of happiness and togetherness, a time to enjoy getting together with family and friends. But, if you’re going through a divorce or parental custody battle or have joint custody with your ex-spouse, the holidays can be anything but enjoyable. To help minimize the conflict and tension that very often arises when there are problems dealing with holiday custody issues, there are strategies that you can use to negotiate custody agreements that are beneficial to all parties involved, especially your children. Agree to alternate holidays every other year. For example, you spend the holidays with your children for the even years, and your ex gets them for the odd years. Another strategy is to split the holiday in half which means your child spends part of the day with each one of you. This option is doable if you and your ex live in close proximity to one another. Schedule a holiday for more than one day. In other words, you can celebrate Christmas a few days before or after December 25th and your ex-spouse can spend it with your children on Christmas Day. You can choose to rotate this schedule every other year. When choosing a holiday schedule, look at the big picture and do not only focus on the short-term holidays. There are several factors that will help you decide on the ideal holiday schedule: where the parents live, work schedules, family traditions, and school schedules. List out your goals and decide how you would like to spend future holidays with your children. If you’re having trouble agreeing on a holiday visitation schedule with your ex-spouse, you may need the services of an experienced family law attorney to help you negotiate this and other child custody modifications. Please call our office today at 843-379-4888 to schedule a consultation. https://www.fenderlawfirm.com/holiday-related-custody-issues/
Failure to pay child support is no joke. In fact, not paying child support will result in imminent negative repercussions. The State of South Carolina has several enforcement powers to collect child support including, but not limited to, tax liens, property liens, wage garnishments, passport denials, and suspension of licenses. https://www.fenderlawfirm.com/drivers-license-suspension-for-failure-to-pay-child-support/ Driver’s License Suspension for Failure to Pay Child Support | Fender Law Firm

Many married couples in the Beaufort area are living the American dream – they own their own business together and reap the benefits. However, what happens if married business owners then decide to get divorced? This can be a complex situation, and you always want an experienced divorce lawyer in Beaufort on your side. Your Options: There are different ways to divide your marital property in a South Carolina divorce. The state law requires that all marital property be divided “equitably,” and this includes a joint business. Some options for dividing business interests include: -One spouse “buys out” the other’s ownership stake -One spouse obtains full ownership but, instead of cash, the other spouse receives a much larger portion of other types of marital property -The spouses decide they can work together and continue joint ownership after the divorce You always want to protect your rights as a spouse and business owner in a divorce.
