Welcome to First Step Home, where we focus again on the health and safety of all the clients, children and staff – all of whom are working so hard at this time.
We have 100 women 30 children and 48 staff who are following federal, state and local guidelines to keep Covid 19 at bay.
We are here on campus, on a 24/7 basis, working with the suggestions and guidance with our medical director, psychiatric nurse and RN’s to keep everyone healthy while we work to address substance use disorder and mental health issues with our clients.

The Residential Treatment program provides services for substance use disorder and mental health treatment with trauma-informed care for pregnant and non-pregnant women, who are least 18 years old. The residential environment provides support to enable women to heal and develop specific skills to meet their recovery goals. We offer accommodations, when capacity allows, for children up to 12 years of age to live in Residential Housing with their mothers.

A Place for Help
First Step Home continues to make headway in our mission of providing quality residential, campus and sober housing opportunities for the women we serve. We recently opened the apartment complex at 2160 Fulton Avenue to 23 women and their children. The apartments come with funding from the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) and are lovely renovated studio and one-bedroom living quarters. Here women can rebuild their credit and live on their own, while being right across the street from our treatment services. In the past three years we have opened the Terry Schoenling Home for Mothers and Infants at 2207 Fulton and moved our administrative offices to 2211 Fulton Avenue. The site has two new therapy rooms, an intake center and our administrative space. Since 2005 we have added fifty-three beds, nine new buildings, four new treatment spaces and an intake center to our campus. All of this has happened due to our great sponsors and donors who live our mission daily. We couldn't have done this without them!

Founded in 1993, First Step Home is a treatment center located in Walnut Hills, a suburb of Cincinnati. Established as a women’s only facility, First Step Home is the only addiction treatment center in Cincinnati allowing children, up to the age of 12, to live with their mother’s while they are in treatment. First Step Home provides an entire continuum of care to women with addiction. Our staff work to assist women in rebuilding their families as they break the cycle of drug and alcohol addiction.

Our program provides trauma-informed treatment for pregnant and non-pregnant women, who are least 18 years old. Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment program provides housing and 98% of the women receiving services live ‘on campus.’. Women can live together with their children up to the age of 12.

THE TERRY SCHOENLING HOME FOR MOTHERS AND INFANTS PROGRAM
Terry’s Home is a part of the Maternal Addiction Program and serves as a place for women to complete their pregnancies and to live during the all-important first month of life. Services provided include weekly meetings with a nurse for mother and baby and all other services for pregnant and postpartum women including classes and groups in parenting, breastfeeding, safe sleep, bonding and relapse prevention.
