😢As some of you may have noticed, our hospital is located in a cell phone dead zone. This makes communicating with clients in the parking lot difficult. 📱To help with this we have extended the reach of our Wi-Fi so that you can use our Wi-Fi to make phone calls instead of doing so through your cell phone carrier. 📶However, there is a setting you need to change on your phone to do this. Included here are instructions on how to enable Wi-Fi calling. Please do this at home before coming to the hospital if possible. This will help us greatly. ❓If you have questions please post them in the comments! Please note: if you are doing this from home start on the second row of the instructions. If you are doing this at the hospital, start on the first row of the instructions Instructions for Android: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rVCNfeM4vdc-267M4GafkbOIiun76MJI/view?usp=sharing Instructions for iPhone: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15T6iehzP6L8jaiXm9qZNbRrMz_yRJYyc/view?usp=sharing
😍Nothing is as wonderful as an armful of adorable puppies! 🐶Nala, Judge and Rex are as delightfully squishy and huggable as they look! ⚖️These cuties were in to be weighed so that they could get their scheduled dewormer. It is very common for puppies to have internal parasites and it is always a good idea to deworm them on a regular basis even if their fecal examination does not reveal any parasites. This can happen because adult parasites don’t always shed eggs and since many parasites are zoonotic (can be transmitted to people) we always recommend routine deworming! 📆Pro tip: your monthly heartworm medication also has an internal parasite dewormer as well!
Friendly reminder!
Teddy and Ginger are so adorable together! These two have been rescued by a wonderful family and are now undergoing heartworm treatment. This will require a series of injections that will kill off the heart worms along with receiving monthly heartworm preventative. The monthly preventative ensures that any baby worms that are produced by the adult worms are killed before they can cause re-infection or spread. Is your pet on heartworm preventative? Did you know you can save money by having your heartworm preventative set up on auto ship to your home once a month? You can take a look on our online store and set it up here: https://flagleranimalhospital2.securevetsource.com/index.pml
Please keep a lookout for this sweet girl. Her name is Eshana and she was lost last night (9/10/20) near the P section (Porwyn and Porcupine). If you have seen her please let us know!
Do you have a senior dog? Have you ever wondered what you can do to help preserve their mobility? This is a simple but effective way to do “physical therapy” at home. These are step overs, also known as cavaletti exercises. The benefits of doing these exercises include: -improving rear end awareness -strengthening of muscles involved in limb flexion; which teaches your dog to pick up their feet -increases range of motion in the knee joint Give it a try and show beautiful Meeka some love in the comments💕
Did you know... That pig ears are not recommended chew treats due to their high fat content and risk for salmonella exposure? There is a recent salmonella outbreak in Canada due to these treats: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-recall/salmonella-outbreak-pig-ears/

Does your dog love to chew? Some dogs are aggressive chewers while others are not. Chewing is a fun way to pass the time but it isn’t absolutely necessary for your dog to chew on things. Think of it more like a habit. This can be a good habit if your dog is given the rights kind of chew products or it can be a bad habit if they are given (or if they choose) the wrong things to chew on. Chewing is a good way for your dog to keep their back teeth in good condition when appropriate items are made available. When choosing chew items it is really important to ask yourself these two questions: 1. Can you make an indent in the item with your fingernail? 2. Would you bang your bare knee with the item? If the answer is “NO” for either question, then it is NOT a suitable chew item. Items such as deer antlers, yak milk chews, nylabones, marrow bones, and ice are all TOO HARD for your dogs’ teeth. When a dog chews on something that is too hard for them to chew they are at high risk of cracking or breaking their chewing (back) teeth. These breaks and cracks result in painful slab fractures where the tooth cracks along the side and can expose the pulp of the tooth which can lead to tooth root abscesses. If you aren’t sure what a suitable chew item is you can look for a product that has the VOHC seal of approval on it. Or search their website for approved products here: http://www.vohc.org/VOHCAcceptedProductsTable_Dogs.pdf Of course chewing is just one way that your dog can help you keep their teeth clean. The best defense against periodontal disease is daily brushing with a veterinary enzymatic toothpaste. We carry C.E.T. Poultry and Vanilla mint flavor! What chew items do your dogs like to chew on? Let us know in the comments!
One of our wonderful clients made us this beautiful gift and we think it is perfect! We know that our patients are your family members. November is Senior Pet month! Do you have a Senior Pet? Send me their picture in a pm and I will repost them when I get enough! This sweet boy is Simba 💕
Is your pet overweight? Is it underweight? Or is it just right? Our veterinarians use the body condition system to score each patient on a scale based on several parameters. This helps them determine if a pet is an ideal weight or if it is under or overweight. If you aren't sure, post a recent sideview picture in the comments and we can help you figure it out!
Sammy and Jake are both senior pups that were adopted from Great Dawg Rescue. Aren’t they beautiful? Adopting a senior pet has several benefits: 💩Most senior pets are already housebroken 🦴Most senior pets are beyond the “chewing phase” 👟Most senior pets don’t require as much exercise as younger pets 🩺Most senior pets have already had all of their vaccinations for the year 🧬With senior pets there are no surprises when it comes to size and grooming requirements 🐕Senior pets have better attention spans and are calmer than younger dogs which means they are easier to train So next time you are looking for a pet, consider a senior pet 🐶🐱

Missing cat. Harley is missing ☹😥😥 He's mostly black with white on his face and paws, he's Super friendly, he'll come right up to you and let you pick him up and everything. He was last seen on S. 8th Street in Flagler Beach around 6:30 last night (Thanksgiving). If you see him or know anyone who might've seen him, please let us know. Thanks so much.
Anyone recognize this sweet girl? She was found in Palm Coast yesterday. She is safe and will be heading to the Humane Society to see if her owners can come find her.
Help us wish Dr. Tate a very happy birthday! 🎉🎈🎂
Congratulations to Nicole for completing her Veterinary Nursing degree! We are so happy for her and are so grateful to have her as a part of our veterinary team 💕 Please help us congratulate her for her huge accomplishment and hard work!

We really do have some amazing clients! We were pleasantly surprised with these generous gifts💕 Thank you!
Mast cell tumors are a common skin cancer that we see in pets. They are often called the “great disguiser” because they can look similar to everything from a wart to a fat deposit. This is why we recommend the sampling of any new growth on your pet as well as keeping track of the shape, size, and location of all growths. This new development looks very promising for treating mast cell tumors that would have been difficult to excise surgically due to location! AAHA.ORG FDA approves first intratumoral injection to treat nonmetastatic mast cell tumors in dogs
It’s so nice to be able to see puppies! They are so wonderful to snuggle and much needed stress relief for our team. Each of our doctors has their own personal favorite breeds (even though we literally love all the puppies). Can you guess what they are? Give it a try! Dr. Pelfrey Dr. Tate Dr. Bogunovic Dr. Mendez Dr. Fridlund Dr. Barron
Have a safe and happy holiday! We will be open tonight and tomorrow for emergencies if you need us 🏪 Please remember that dogs have good sniffers and can tell that there is chocolate inside of your presents. No amount of plastic or cardboard will keep them out! We’ve already had several chocolate toxicity cases in the last 24 hours!
Big thanks to Jennifer Hinds for this awesome gingerbread house!
If your pet had a New Year’s resolution, what would it be???

Do you have an essential oil diffuser in your home? If you do, please be sure to research the type of oil you are diffusing for its safety around your pets. Not all essential oils are safe around your pets and their ability to metabolize the oils can differ depending on the species. Cats can be especially sensitive to diffused oils due to their inability to metabolize certain compounds effectively. The same holds true for birds, reptiles, and small mammals. If you are looking for a natural way to help with your pets’ anxiety there are dog and cat specific pheromone diffusers that you can plug any outlet that have been shown to help with problem behaviors. The link for these will be in the comments! If your essential oils are not safe, it doesn’t mean you have to get rid of them. Just be sure that your pet does not have access to the room you are using them in and that you air out the room before allowing them back in. Like and share this so we can make sure more pet owners are aware of this potential toxicity.
It’s hoodie time!!
Very important❗️- Due to a medical emergency we will not be open for emergencies tonight past 10 PM. If you have a medical emergency please seek care at SARVEC (2090 US-1, St. Augustine, 904-797-5770) or ER Volusia (696 Yonge St. Ormond Beach, 386-252-0206). An on-site staff member will be available to email records and x-rays for your pet if needed. We are so sorry about this disruption of our ER service. We will be re-open for emergencies at 7 am Sunday morning.
Happy Friday! Does your puppy go crazy every night? We affectionately call this “puppy zoomies” but the scientific name for this time period is “Frenetic Random Activity Period” or FRAP for short. This is a normal part of puppy behavior and is actually necessary for their development. Some dogs find it so much fun that they continue this behavior into adulthood. The most important thing to know about the FRAP is that it is not a teachable moment. Your puppy isn’t being crazy on purpose and it does not help to try and make them stop. My advice is to just get out of the way and make sure nothing breakable is out. Once the FRAP is over the puppy is a little more ready to settle down and relax. Does your dog still have puppy zoomies? How old are they and what makes them have the zoomies? Let us know in the comments!

Did you know that a dog has anywhere from 125-300 million scent detecting cells in their brain? This is compared to 5 million in our brains. Cats have around 200 million scent detecting cells. Just imagine having a world composed mainly of smells. Their own smells, their owners smells, the smells of foods and even the way time smells. Studies have shown that the way dogs and cats “tell time” is because each hour has its own smell. So when your pet is ready for dinner and you’ve lost track of time, it’s because it literally smells like dinnertime to your dog!
What would your cat’s sign say? JJ’s sign would say “I threw up on Dr. Mendez’s Snuggie” 🤮🤣 Catfancast November 20, 2020 at 5:11 PM · Enjoy watching these shameful cats take credit for their dirty deeds . . .
There have been coyote sightings in the E section of Palm Coast. Coyotes are typically frightened of humans and will avoid them if possible however they will attack small animals. Please keep the following guidelines in mind: 1. Keep cats and small dogs inside 2. Remove potential food or water sources 3. Keep children out of dense vegetation or brush

We have great news.... Dr. Barron and her husband Rob, are eagerly expecting their second baby Barron. Dr. Barron will be leaving March 1st on maternity leave. We wanted all her clients to know that we got you covered! Our doctors will be helping to see some of her wonderful, loyal clients, and one of our favorite relief doctors will also be here to help out. We all wish Dr. Barron and Rob a wonderful family time away from the hospital and eagerly anticipate her arrival back to FAH in July. Leave your favorite emojis/gifs in the comments to wish them the best of luck!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your fuzzy babies ❤️
How often should you bathe your dog? The answer is: it depends. Some dogs rarely need bathing while others benefit from regular baths. Dogs with allergies or skin conditions may benefit from bathing once to twice a week, especially if the pollen is high (as it is now). Sometimes your dog may benefit from a medicated shampoo and other times a gentle over the counter shampoo may be enough. Either way, always be sure that your dog shampo is SOAP or DETERGENT free. This way you will not wash away your pets’ natural oils or dry out their skin. And if you use a topical flea preventative, a soap free shampoo is safe to use and will not wash the product off. Never use shampoo formulated for humans as the pH balance of your dog is very different than your head. Do you have any bath related questions about your pet? Let us know in the comments.
We will continue to see emergency and wellness visits from 7am to 7pm daily. Thank you for your continued support and trust in Flagler Animal Hospital. We appreciate you and truly love your pets.
Sometimes our patients come with bibs on. But they all leave with extra snuggles. Did you know that we recommend pet insurance for all new puppies? Puppyhood is the best time to get your pet enrolled in health insurance since they are a blank slate with no pre-existing issues. This means that any new issue will be guaranteed to be covered under their plan. Do you have questions about pet insurance? Drop them in the comments!
Did you know that small dogs can be attacked by raptors? We have a great deal of hawks as well as owls in the area so please keep your little pups and small cats under close supervision. You can also consider something like this which is called a Raptor Shield. It is made from a heavy duty plastic that prevents the talons from taking hold. I’ll put the link in the comments. Have you ever seen a raptor spying on your pet? What kind was it and where?
We are here for your pet's emergency from 7am to 7pm every day! We have qualified nurses here overnight to care for those inpatients that are hospitalized during the day. Doctors are just a phone call away. As always, thank you for trusting us with your fur kids. ❤️
