Marker Monday: On this date in 1984 at 7:03AM EST, NASA launched the Space Shuttle Challenger to begin an eight-day mission titled STS-41G.
On this mission, Astronaut Kathryn Sullivan became the first U.S. woman to perform a spacewalk and Marc Garneau became the first Canadian astronaut to fly to space. The shuttle's crew of seven was the largest ever to fly on a single spacecraft at that time, and STS-41G was the first flight to include two female astronauts. STS-41G completed 132 orbits of the Earth in 197.5 hours, before landing at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on Oct. 13.

Marker Monday: Today we are going to learn fun facts about Mars, also known as the 'Red Planet.'
Did you know?
-Mars was named after the Roman God of War and is the fourth planet from the sun in our solar system.
- A day on Mars is 24 hours and 37 minutes –– only a little bit longer than a day on our own planet. A year on Mars, however, is almost twice as long, lasting 687 Earth days! This is because it takes a lot longer than Earth to complete its orbit around the sun!
-Mars is a terrestrial planet. It is small and rocky.
-Several missions have visited Mars. And Mars is the only planet we have sent rovers to, the last being Perseverance which launched on July 30th, 2020.
