Happy Labor Day from our family to yours!
Remember, FVRC is open 24/7 for emergencies: 239-992-8878.
With Labor Day approaching, we wanted to remind you that many Labor Day festivities and foods can be harmful to our pets. Keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe this holiday weekend by following these tips:
✔️Protect Your Plate: Many foods we enjoy on Labor Day such as onions, corn cobs, chocolate, grapes, and alcohol can be toxic to pets or pose a choking hazard.
✔️ Beat The Heat: Dogs are susceptible to heat stroke. Make sure there is plenty of water and shade for our canine friends to keep cool.
✔️ Guard The Grill: Keep pets away from the grill, grill tools, lighter fluid, and matches in order to avoid burns and hazardous chemical ingestion.
✔️ Forgo The Fireworks: Not only can fireworks frighten pets, they can cause severe burns. Keep your pets calm and safe in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area.
If your pet should experience an emergency over the holiday weekend, remember that FVRC is open 24/7 for emergencies: 239-992-8878.
It's important to know the risks that hot summer weather poses to pets and being prepared can help keep your furry family members safe. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has resources to help. Here are some common signs of heat distress in pets:
• Anxiousness
• Excessive panting
• Restlessness
• Excessive drooling
• Unsteadiness
• Abnormal gum and tongue color
• Collapse
Seek emergency veterinary care if you observe any of these signs related to heat distress. If your primary veterinarian is unavailable, remember that FVRC is open 24/7 for emergency care: (239) 992-8878.

Fun activities like fetch can help benefit the overall health of our furry friends. Regular exercise helps reduce the risk of health complications, such as obesity, and the chance of your pet developing destructive behavioral issues. Be sure check in with your primary veterinarian first to make sure that your pet is ready for any strenuous forms of exercise.
