Toothache got you down? Dental pain indicates irritation of the tooth’s nerve. This can me be caused by decay, infection, injury, gum disease or loss of tooth structure. Dental pain can be addressed by completing a filling, root canal therapy or removal of the tooth. The best way to avoid dental pain is by seeking routine preventative care and checkups with your dentist. This allows them to catch cavities in the early stages before they required more extensive treatment. While our dentists like to treat toothaches, they LOVE preventing them.
What is a dental home? No, it’s not a dentist’s house. A dental home is a place where patients go to receive ongoing oral health care. The benefits of establishing a dental home include preventative care, early detection of cavities and other oral disease, receiving oral hygiene education, and the ability to establish a trusting relationship with a dentist. Here at Floss Dental Care, we love our patients and hope to become your dental home away from home!
It's National Tooth Fairy Day! What was the going rate for a tooth when you were growing up?
We know that school might look very different this year, but a dental exam should still be on your back to school checklist! Did you know that all Illinois children in kindergarten, grade 2, grade 6, and grade 9 are required to have an oral health examination for school? Give us a call to schedule your back to school exam today!
Do you know how many teeth are in your mouth? Children are born with 20 primary teeth. These primary teeth are specially sized to create room for the 32 permanent teeth to come, starting around age six. Even though adults have more teeth, it doesn’t mean each tooth is any less important. Maintaining the health of all your teeth, both primary and permanent, ensure proper function, pleasing esthetics, and space maintenance of your entire mouth. The loss of just one tooth could have significant effects on any of these aspects. Love each and every one of your teeth because they are the only ones you’ll get ❤️
This past Saturday in honor of Veterans Day Dr. Ryann partnered up with other dental professionals in the area to offer Veterans dental care at no cost for the third year in a row. It was an amazing opportunity to unite with local dentists in order to give back to those who have given so much. As a group, we were able to help 13 Veterans, performed over 70 procedures, and offered nearly $10,000 worth of free dentistry. In total since starting this initiative 3 years ago, we've helped over 100 Veterans get over $75,000 worth of free dentistry! Thank you to those who served, thank you to those of you who trusted us with your dental health, and thank you to everyone who volunteered. We can’t wait to do this again next year!

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, and we would like to wish all who are celebrating a very Happy Hanukkah! "The proper response, as Hanukkah teaches, is not to curse the darkness but to light a candle." — Irving Greenberg We know this year is unlike any other, but we hope that no matter what you celebrate that you can look not to the darkness but to the light and find some holiday happiness. 🕯️

Whether you're traveling or staying Home (Alone) for the holidays, don't forget your toothbrush. As we tend to snack more (and often on sugary sweets) during the holidays, we're at a higher risk for decay, so be sure to brush brush brush!
Congratulations to our #givingtuesday winner, Tracy! We were so happy to be able to give back to one of our patients and look forward to continuing to celebrate all of our patients in 2021!

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As we take time to reflect on the impact he made on not only America but on the the world, we also are all encouraged to live out Dr. King's values through service. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. We are proud to serve our community every day, and strive to work together to make a better tomorrow for everyone.

Our office is happy to celebrate our doctors - Dr. Cannon & Dr. Maloney! Ways we recommend celebrating include: -Commit to better dental habits -Raise awareness about the importance of dental health. Has COVID affected your dental health without you realizing it? According to the ADA, more than 70% of dentists have seen an increase in stress-related conditions like teeth grinding, clenching, and TMD symptoms. Additionally, remote working has gotten us out of our usual routines so we're snacking more, brushing later or less, and skipping flossing! It's not too late to reverse the damage done in the past year. Now is the time to invest in improving your health - call us today to schedule any outstanding treatment or dental cleanings so you can have a healthier tomorrow!
