As we get another chance to review the amazing "I have a dream" speech from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we realize how far short we have fallen on his challenge. Hopefully we all resolve to do better, and then actually do something about it.
At this Firm we have another dream that we ask people to get behind. Equity demands it, and the hope for a better financial life for so many of our citizens depends on it. In 2005 a meanspirited Congress and President passed a 'bankruptcy reform' law that has harmed and hamstrung hundreds of thousands of good citizens for no good, fair or equitable reason. We had reasons to hope for changes to that awful law along the way, but nothing has happened and good people continue to suffer needlessly.
Now we get to dream again. We should dream big and then PUSH the newly-elected majority to change the Bankruptcy laws so that good people can get a fair chance on debt resolution. The new majority CAN--ifthey choose--push through meaningful Bankruptcy Reform that nobody can block. Bankruptcy Reform was mentioned a few times on the campaign trail, but we don't hear much about it lately. We don't need to miss this moment-again. We urge you to contact everyone you know in the new Administration to get this done now. There is
no time to waste and no reason to delay. Do it for the People!
